INEI: Consumer prices in Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.23% in July of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of July of 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Lima Metropolitan area grew by 0.23% compared to the last month, reaching an accumulated variation of 1.53% and that of the last 12 months (August 2024 – July 2025) of 1.69%.


In the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy is explained that the monthly result was mainly influenced, by the increase of prices in the consumption divisions: Foods and Non-Alcoholic beverages (0.53%), Transportation (0.48%) and Restaurants and hotels (0.15%); nevertheless, Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased their prices (-0.20%).


Also increased the prices of Furniture, articles for the household and routine household maintenance ordinary (0.28%), Goods and different services (0.23%), Clothing items and footwear (0.11%), Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (0.08%), Communications (0.07%), Health (0.04%) and Recreation and culture (0.03%); meanwhile, the division Education did not showed variation.


The increase of prices registered in Foods and Beverages answers to greater prices observed in fishes and seafood (11.6%) such as Bonito (26.3%), horse mackerel (14.5%), mackerel (8.9%), Lisa fish (8.6%) and mussels (5.6%); other food products (4.3%) such as ground chili pepper (24.8%), coriander (20.3%), ground garlic (16.8%) and basil (14.8%); fruits (3.2%) such as Israel apple (13.5%), regular apple (11.7%), melon (13.0%), watermelon (11.2%), passion fruit (11.0%), tuna (9.4%), papaya (9.1%), lemon (7.9%), white grape (6.4%), Inguiri banana (5.6%), Island banana (4.2%) and Silk banana (3.1%); and pineapple (3.4%); also, the vegetables, legumes including potato and other tubers (1.2%) such as, green onions (27.0%), lettuce (24.9%), corn (17.0%), pickle (13.1%), beet (11.1%), baby green beans (6.6%), green fava (6.1%), white potato (4.3%), Italian tomato (4.1%) and yellow sweet potato (3.1%). In addition, coffee, tea and cacao (1.1%) such as grounded toasted coffee (5.0%) and instant coffee (1.2%).


On the other hand, it decreases the prices of meat (-2.5%) such as eviscerated chicken (-6.0%), chicken cuts: leg (-4.5%), wings (-3.1%), breast (-2.3%); eviscerated hen (-1.2%) and chicken innards (-1.2%); milk, cheese and eggs (-0.7%) such as chicken eggs (-3.3%); bread and cereals (-0.6%) such as packaged oatmeal (-5.6%), dry long pasta (-5.1%), dried short pasta (-2.0%); and sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and sugar sweets (-0.3%) such as brown sugar (-1.4%) and white sugar (-1.0%).


In the Transportation division prices of passengers’ transport by air increased (6.7%) such as domestic (7.9%) and international (6.3%) air ticket; diesel oil (1.9%) and transportation of passengers by road (0.4%) such as interprovince omnibus fare (15.4%). Meanwhile, the prices of purchasing of vehicles (-1.0%) such as new automobiles (-1.0%) and fuels for vehicles (-0.4%) such as liquefied petroleum gas for vehicles (-4.7%) and gasohol (-0.3%).


In Restaurants and hotels increased the prices of beverage service in restaurants and similar facilities (0.2%) such as carbonated beverages (0.7%) and hot beverages (0.5%); and service of food in restaurants and similar facilities (0.1%) such as sandwiches (0.3%), tamales (0.3%), creole and regional plates (0.2%), breakfast in restaurants (0.2%), ceviche (0.2%), breaded chicken (0.2%), menu in restaurants (0.1%) and grilled chicken (0.1%).


The reduction of prices in the division Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels is based in the lower prices of domestic propane gas (-1.1%), consumption of residential electricity (0.2%) and rent of department in building (-0.2%).


Products with greater incidence in the variation of prices
The result of July was mainly influenced, by the high prices in foods such as Bonito fish, horse mackerel, papaya and corn, as well as fare in interprovince omnibus, that together contributed with 0.197 percentage points. These increases were dimed by the low prices of eviscerated chicken, chicken eggs, dry long pasta, chicken leg and green peas.


Products with greater increase of prices
In July of 2025, from the 586 products of family basket, 306 increased their price, 119 decreased and 161 did not showed any variation. The products with greater increase of prices were: green onions (26.95%), Bonito fish (26.31%), lettuce (24.86%), ground chili pepper (24.82%), coriander (20.28%), corn (16.98%), grounded garlic (16.76%) and interprovince omnibus ticket (15.38%).


Meanwhile, the products with greater reduction of prices were blueberries (-16.20%), leek (-10.19%), sweet pepper (-7.49%), orange for juice (-7.39%), green peas (-6.08%), eviscerated chicken (-5.98%), packaged oatmeal (-5.58%) and dried long pasta (-5.12%).


Consumer prices without food and energy increased 0.18%
In July of 2025, the variation of the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area without considering foods and energy grew 0.18%.


At national level, consumer prices increased by 0.18%
At national level, the CPI increased 0.18% in July, with an accumulated variation of 1.31% and of 1.67% in the last 12 months (August 2024 – July 2025). The greater increases were registered in Transportation (0.50%), Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.29%), Goods and Different Services (0.20%), Furniture, articles for the household and conservation of the household (0.16%), Restaurants and hotels (0.15%), Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (0.09%), Health (0.06%), Clothing items and footwear (0.04%), Communications (0.04%) and Recreation and culture (0.03%). On the other hand, there were registered downward prices in the following divisions Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.16%); meanwhile that in Education, did not showed any variation.


Variation of prices by cities
In July of 2025, there were registered an increase of prices in 17 cities, the highest variations were registered in Tumbes (0.46%), Cusco and Huancayo (0.31% each one), Huancavelica (0.29%) and Moquegua (0.26%). Meanwhile, nine cities registered negative results, it outstood: Tarapoto (-0.20%), Puerto Maldonado (-0.18%), Iquitos (-0.15%) and Pucallpa (-0.10%).


Wholesale prices decreased 0.74%
The Wholesale Price Intex reduced by 0.74% compared to the month of June, explained by the low prices of national products, outstanding the manufactured (gasohol, liquefied petroleum gas, diesel oil, construction rods, cotton fiber yarn, preserved fish in filet, Brown, sugar, soybean refined oil and industrial wheat flour); livestock (live chicken, live hen, eggs and ovine cattle). Nevertheless, there were observed increase of prices of agriculture products (green fava, corn, lemon, carrot, avocado, potato and sweet potato) and fishing products (Bonito fish, mackerel and horse mackerel).


Likewise, it decreases the prices of imported products such as: manufacturing (crude soybean oil, forklift, pneumatics for truck, polypropylene resins, polyethylene and PVC, cyanide, automobiles, construction rods and bulldozers) and agriculture (lentils, hard yellow corn, non-carded cotton and wheat).


Machinery and equipment prices reduced by 0.88%
During July of 2025, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment decreased 0.88 compared to June, due to the variation of the exchange rate that influenced in the decrease of the prices of imported capital goods, such as agriculture machinery (tractors and shovels); other machinery (different electricity meters and electro domestic devices); transportation (pick-up trucks, motors for vessels and automotive vehicles for the transportation of persons) and industry ( (gas power generators, excavators, dozers and desktop computers).


Likewise, the capital goods of national origin showed lower prices, mainly in machinery for the industry (industrial fans, electric boards, power Transformers and welding machines); machines for transportation (moto-taxi, springs for automotive vehicles and car bodies); and other machinery (stretchers- couches of medical treatment). Meanwhile, the agriculture machinery did not register any variation.


Prices of construction materials decreased 0.07%
In July of 2025, the prices of construction materials decreased 0.07% compared to the last month, due to the negative behavior of four of the ten groups that are part of this indicator: glasses (templated); metallics (zinc plated sheets, LAC steel pipes, nails, black wire and construction rods); tubes and plastic accessories (PVC accessories for water and sewerage and for electricity); and aggregates (concrete).


On the other hand, it increased the prices of the remaining groups, being the most significant, that of electric supplies (cables for fixed installations and energy cables); followed by the group of woods (cachimbo wood, oak and plywood); bricks (pandereta brick, king kong brick and brick for roof); tiles and mosaics (wall and floor coverings); and concrete structures and frames (sheets composed by fibers both plain and corrugated). Meanwhile, the chipboards group, kept their prices.
