The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in May of 2025, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow increased 2.5% compared to the same month of the last year. This result was driven by the greater movement of light-duty (3.2%) and heavy-duty (1.6%) vehicles.
Likewise, it was informed that in the last 12 months (June 2024 – May 2025), the rate accumulated a positive variation of 3.4%.
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased 3.2%
During May of 2025, the traffic Flow of light-duty vehicles grew 3.2% compared with the same month of the last year. This increase was influenced by the long holiday by the International Labor Day and the Mother’s Day, as well as the influx of national and foreign tourist to different gastronomic events in different regions of the country. These activities improve the dynamics of the sectors such as retail sale of wellness and beauty products, services of allocation and meals, entertainment and domestic tourism.
The highest rates of traffic Flow of light-duty vehicles were registered in the following tollbooths, in the North: San Martín (Moyobamba 36.2%, Aguas Claras 16.1%, Pongo 11.4%), Lambayeque (Mocce 35.2%, Diversion Olmos 17.4%), Piura (Paita 22.2%, Chulucanas 13.3%, Loma Larga Baja 7.6%), La Libertad (Chicama 16.7%, Pacanguilla 15.6%, Viru 6.9%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucara 12.7%) and Ancash (Huarmey 11.0%).
In the Center, the flow grew in Lima (Fortaleza 13.2%, Variant of Pasamayo 8.6%, Corcona 6.3%, El Paraíso 1.2%) and Junín (Quiulla 8.3%, Casaracra 7.8%). In the South, it outstood the increase in Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concession 27.6%, Matarani Concession 13.4%), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 10.2%, Marcona 6.1%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 10.1%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 8.3%) and Moquegua (Ilo 8.2%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased 1.6%
During May of the current year, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles registered an increase of 1.6% compared to May of 2024.
This result was explained by the increase in the movement of heavy-duty units in the following toll booths: in the North, Piura (Paita 41.3%, Chulucanas 11.5%, Piura, Sullana 3,5%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla 26,6%, Viru 15,8%, Chicama 12.6%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 16.2%, Mocce 12.7%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 13.2%), San Martín (Pongo 12.3%, Aguas Claras 8.0%, Moyobamba 6.6%) and Ancash (Huarmey 11.4%).
In the Center, the traffic flow grew in Lima (Fortaleza 13.2%, Serpentine Pasamayo 11.4%, El Paraíso 8.2%, Variant of Pasamayo 4.8%) and Junín (Quiulla 8.3%). In the South, there were registered increases in Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concession 36.0%, Patahuasi 23.9%, Matarani Concession 23.6%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 26.4%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 23.6%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuellar 19.3%, Ilo 10.9%), Ica (Marcona 14.4%, Jahuay Chincha 13.3%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 4.0%).
The good performance of the heavy-duty vehicles was driven by the growing demand of heavy-cargo transport service linked to the agribusiness sectors (favored by the greater sown areas and suitable climatic conditions), commerce (due to the increase in the sale of vehicles and wholesale commerce), construction (due to the increase of the domestic cement consumption and the progress of public works) and manufacture, due to the dynamism of the primary and non-primary manufacturing industries.
On the other hand, a decrease in the mining activity was registered, mainly in the extraction of copper, gold, molybdenum and iron. Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsectors registered a lower production both of natural gas and natural gas liquids.
The traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles of 3 to 7 axle grew 1.7%
During the month under analysis, the flow of heavy-duty for loading of 3to 7 axle increased by 1.7% compared to May of 2024. This growth was driven by the greater traffic flow of trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks for loading of 3 axle (0.9%), 4 axle (3.5%), 5 axle (4.4%) and 6 axle (1.5%); meanwhile the transportation of units of 7 axle reduced by -4.3%.
The positive performance of these units for loading was explained by the increased demand of transportation of products linked to the agribusiness, commerce, construction and manufacture sectors.
