INEI signs agreements with indigenous and afro-Peruvian organizations to strengthen the 2025 National Censuses

In order to guarantee an inclusive and participative census process, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) signed important agreements of interinstitutional cooperation with representative organizations of the indigenous and afro-Peruvian communities. This strategic alliance marks a key milestone for the execution of the 2025 National Censuses.


The chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán Flores pointed out that the agreements aim to strengthen the active participation of these populations in all stages of the census, to facilitate the access of the census personnel to its territories and assure a communication in their own languages.


“With these agreements we are building collaboration bridges that allows to strengthen the dissemination and the knowledge of the 2025 National Censuses, this way no Peruvian left out of registration”, stressed the chief of the INEI.


The chief of the INEI stressed that this joint effort will allow to drive the participation of the communities in the execution of this census operation, guaranteeing a proper dissemination of the IV Census of Indigenous Communities in native languages.


In addition, the entry of census personnel to the territories, with the support of local authorities, also to promote the recognition and statistical visibility of the indigenous and afro-Peruvian population.


The INEI undertakes to implement the 2025 National Censuses respecting the intercultural approaches and sharing their results through systems of census information. In addition, with each organization will directly coordinate to optimize the logistic of field, the dissemination and the access to the communities.


On the other hand, the indigenous and afro-Peruvian organizations will undertake an active role, by facilitating the entry of census personnel, to promote the participation of its population, and disseminate the census message through local media.


The signing organizations of these agreements were: the National Agrarian Confederation (CNA), the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women of Peru (ONAMIAP), the Center of Development of Peruvian Black Woman (CEDEMUNEP), The Woman Defense and Development Black Association and Chincha Young People - MARGARITA and the Ethnic Development Center (CEDET).


The INEI reaffirms its commitment of carrying out censuses that reflected the ethnic diversity of the country, ensuring that all the voices of Peru must be listen and considered in the statistics, for the development of the country.
