Employed population reached 5 million 481 thousand 400 persons in Lima Metropolitan area between April and June of 2025

During the mobile quarter April-May-June of 2025, the employed of 2025, the employed population in Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 481 thousand 400 persons, which represented a growth of 0.4% (20 thousand 100 persons) compared to the same period of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared based in the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
From the total of persons with employment, 54.6% (2 million 990 thousand 300) are men and 45.4% (2 million 491 thousand 100) women.
Likewise, it was informed that the male employed population increased by 3.4% (98 thousand 800 persons), meanwhile that the female decreased by 3.1% (-78 thousand 600 persons), compared to the same quarter of 2024.
The employed population of 45 years old and older kept a growing trend
According to age group, during the quarter under analysis, the employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 5.5% (113 thousand 400 persons) and the employed population of 25 to 44 years old increased by 0.3% (9 thousand persons). On the other hand, the young population of 14 to 24 years old decreased by 14.3% (-102 thousand 200 persons), compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Employed population with university superior education level grew by 3.4%
Between April and June of 2025, the employed population with university superior education level grew by 3.4% (52 thousand 500 persons) and that population with secondary education level increased by 1.9% (44 thousand persons), compared to the same quarter of the last year. On the other hand, it reduced by 5.9% (-71 thousand 300 persons) among those that have non-university superior education level and in 1.3% (-5 thousand 100 persons) in those with primary or lower education level.
Employment in Commerce increased by 2.4%
In Lima Metropolitan area, during the quarter April-May-June of 2025, compared to the same quarter of 2024, he employed population increased by 2.4% (28 thousand 200 persons) in the activity of Commerce, followed by Construction with 0.5% (thousand 800 persons), Services with 0.1% (2 thousand 900 persons) and Manufacturing with 0.1% (700 persons).
Population that works in establishments of 11 to 50 employees grew by 10.8%
During the quarter under analysis, the employed population in Lima Metropolitan area, in economic units of 11 to 50 employees increased by 10.8% (64 thousand 200 persons). On the other hand, it reduced by 1.3% (-44 thousand 600 persons) in companies of 1 to 10 employees, compared to the same quarter of the last year. In the establishments of 51 and more employees did not register significant variations.
Unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area reached 6.4%
During the quarter April-May-June of 2025, the unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area was of 6.4%, which is equivalent to 373 thousand 100 persons that sought employment actively. By comparing to the second quarter of 2024 (6.6%), was registered a reduction in the unemployment rate of 0.2 percentage point.
Population suitable employed increased by 12.8%
During the quarter April-May-June 2025, the population suitable employed in Lima Metropolitan area reached 3 million 555 thousand 800 persons, registering a growth of 12.8% (404 thousand 500 persons) compared with the same period of 2024.
On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 16.6% (-384 thousand 300 persons). In detail, the visible underemployment (by time-related underemployment) reduced by 36.3% (of working hours) reduced by 36.3% (-202 thousand 900 persons), meanwhile that those underemployed by incomes (invisible underemployment) decreased by 10.4% (-181 thousand 400 persons).
Average monthly income coming from work increased by 9.1%
During the quarter April-May-June of 2025, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area was of 2,172.10 Soles, which represented an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period of the last year.
Average monthly income grew 9.9% in the population of 45 years old and older
The average income increased by 9.9% (213.30 Soles) among the population of 45 years old and older, in 7.3% (149.70 Soles) among the population of 25 to 44 years old and in 4.0% (48.60 Soles) among the population of 14 to 24 years old, compared to the quarter April-May-June of 2024.
Employees of all education levels increased their average income
Among April and June of 2025 and compared to the same quarter of 2024, the average monthly income in Lima Metropolitan area increased in all education levels: in the population with university superior education level increased by 10.3% (320.20 Soles), in those that have secondary education level increased by 8.6% (126.40 Soles), in those with primary or lower education level increased by 5.1% (55.90 Soles), and in those that studied non-university superior education level increased by 4.7% (83.20 Soles).
Average monthly income in the Manufacturing sector grew 15.5%
In Lima Metropolitan area, the average monthly income coming from work among those employed in the Manufacturing sector increased by 15.5% (287.30 Soles), in Construction sector increased by 11.6% (251.40 Soles), in Services sector increased by 10.4% (219.10 Soles) and in Commerce sector increased by 2.9% (46.00 Soles), compared to the same period of 2024. The greater average monthly income was registered in Construction (2,416.10 Soles) and the lower income was registered in Commerce sector (1,655.00 Soles).
