National production grew 2.67% in May of 2025 and accumulated 14 months of positive results

During May of 2025, the national production increased 2.67% compared to the same month of the last year, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report of National Production.
This performance was mainly driven by the Agricultural; Other Services; Commerce, Construction, Transportation, Storage and Courier; and Manufacturing sectors, which contributed together with the 96% of the total result. In addition, Government Services; Services Provided to Companies; Accommodation and Restaurants; Electricity, Gas and Water; and Financing and Insurance sectors registered a positive behavior. In contrast, Fishing, Telecommunications, Mining and Hydrocarbons sectors registered negative incidences.
The INEI stated that between January and May of 2025, the economic activity accumulated a growth of 3.13%, meanwhile that during the period June 2024 – May 2025, the expansion was of 3.40%. With the result of May, the Peruvian economy added 14 consecutive months of growth.
Agricultural sector grew 9.26%
In May 2025, the Agricultural sector registered a growth of 9.26% compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the agricultural (11.63%) and livestock (3.30%) subsectors.
It outstood the greater production of Caupi dry bean (899.9%), olive (782.0%), cacao (35.6%), avocado (30.9%), quinoa (26.0%), potato (8.8%) and paddy rice (4.8%), favoured by the increase in the area sown and favorable climatic conditions (adequate rains and minimum to maximum temperatures around its average).
In addition, it outstood the greater volumes produced of fresh milk (5.2%), swine (4.0%), poultry (3.9%) and beef cattle (2.1%).
Fishing sector decreases by 4.55%
During the month of May 2025 compared to the same month of the last year, the Fishing sector decreased 4.55% due to the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-6.62%), specially of anchovy (for fishmeal and fish oil) for indirect human consumption, that added 1,327.621 tons, 8.75% lower than in May of 2024 (1,454.863 tons). The ports of Malabrigo (La Libertad), Bayóvar (Piura), Chimbote and Samanco (Ancash) registered the lower landings.
Continental fishing increased by 66.45% due to the greater capture of species for consumption in fresh (95.6%) and frozen (13.2%) state.
Mining and Hydrocarbons registered unfavourable behavior
During May 2025, production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased 6.92%, compared to the same month of the last year, influenced by the contraction of the metal-mining subsector (-7.20%), due to the lower production of iron (-62.8%), molybdenum (-24.1%), copper (-5.0%) and gold (-4.7%). On the other hand, the volumes of zinc (7.2%), lead (4.8%), tin (4.5%) and avocado (1.6%).
The hydrocarbons subsector reduced 5.07% in May 2025, due to the lower exploitation of natural gas liquids (-16.0%) and natural gas (-6.4%); nevertheless, the production of crude petroleum grew 17.2%.
Manufacturing expanded 2.44%
The manufacturing activity grew 2.44% in May 2025, compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the primary manufacturing subsectors. The primary manufacturing subsector outstood due to the fabrication of primary products of precious metals and non-ferrous metals (5.65%), preparation and conservation of meat (4.35%) and preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceous and molluscs (1.96%). On the other hand, the fabrication of products of oil refining (-7.52%) and preparation of sugar (-15.83%).
The non-primary manufacturing subsector was driven by consumption goods (3.43%) and capital goods (6.71%), in spite of the reduction in intermediate goods (-1.46%).
Electricity, Gas and Water grew 1.55%
In May of 2025, the Electricity, Gas and Water sector increased 1.55%, compared to May of 2024, due to the greater electric generation (1.84%) and distribution of gas (3.10%). The production of water, on the other hand, decreased (-0.80%).
The growth of the electricity subsector was driven by the sector of Hydroelectric energy (14.24%) and non-conventional renewable energy (7.34%), meanwhile that it reduced the thermoelectric energy origin (-17.05%).
The increase of the distribution of gas was based in the greater demand of the outlet establishments of Vehicular Natural Gas (7.23%), of Companies (3.20%) and of Electricity Generators (1.91%). Nevertheless, the contraction of the water subsector was explained by the lower production of Sedapal (-0.5%); Sedapar (-2.5%); Sedaloreto (-6.8%) and Semapach (-16.5%); meanwhile, the production of Sedachimbote (8.8%) and Sedalib (3.6%) increased.
Construction grew 6.04% driven by the cement
The Construction sector grew 6.04% during May 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, due to the increase of the domestic cement consumption (7.72%) and the physical progress of public works (1.75%).
The growth of the domestic cement consumption answered to private projects such as engineering Works in fabrics, in storage plants, in mining centers, in infrastructure for distribution of electricity networks, among other projects.
Meanwhile, the increase in the physical progress of public works was associated to the greater investment of the National Government in works of Non-Residential Buildings, Road Infrastructure and Basic Services. On the other hand, the investment of regional and local governments in works of Basic Services and works of Risks Prevention decreased.
Commerce grew 3.10%
The Commerce sector grew 3.10% during May of 2025, compared to the same month of the year 2024, driven by the increase in the wholesale commerce (2.89%), before the greater sale of grains, seeds, poultry and inputs to produce foods for animals (soybean); agrochemical, chemical substances of industrial use, plastic materials in primary forms and bulk paper; fuels and lubricants; heavy machines and equipment of air conditioning and of measurement, air compressors and electric instruments; and household goods of white line, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
The retail sale grew sale 2.84%, favoured by the sale of household appliances, furniture and illumination devices, due to the best campaign of the 2025 Mother’s Day and renewal of season articles; greater sale of pharmaceutical, medicinal, cosmetics products and toiletries before the beginning of the autum-winter and the demand by gifts of beauty products; as well as fuels, in response to the greater vehicular flow and the expansion of gas station service.
The automotive commerce grew 6.25%, mainly by the commercialization of light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles; and the dynamism in the maintenance, repair and spare-parts sale, favoured by commercial campaigns. The sale and repair of motorcycles, its parts and accessories continue with positive trend due to commercial promotions, financing facilities and its positioning as an economical means of transportation.
Transportation, Storage and Courier increased 5.70%
The Transportation, Storage and Courier sector grew 5.70% in May of 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, due to the good performance of the transportation subsectors (3.51%) and the storage and courier subsectors (13.42%).
The growth of the transportation subsector is explained by the favorable performance of the transportation via road and pipping (1.18%), due to greater displacement by road, of passengers (2.1%) and load (0.6%). In addition, it increased the transportation by rail (0.01%), due to the dynamism of the movement of passengers; on the other hand, the transportation by pipping decreased 6.1%, due to the lower production of natural gas and liquids of natural gas.
The transportation by air grew 8.89% as a result of the greater movement of passengers and freight, national and international. The transportation by waterway increased 11.93% explained by the greater transportation of goods by sea, and of passengers and freight by river route.
The storage and courier subsector grew by 13.42% based in the greater storage service and activities of support to the transportation (14.65%) and the postal and courier services (3.37%).
Accommodation and Restaurants grew 5.07%
During May of 2025, the Accommodation and Restaurants sector registered a variation of 5.07%, due to the favorable performance of the restaurants (5.08%) and accommodation (2.70%) subsectors. In this result, influenced the long holiday that started with the commemoration of the Labor Day and the greater campaign of the Mother’s Day, among the main ones.
The result of the restaurants subsector was based in the evolution of the restaurants service (5.17%), food services for companies of transportation and concessionaires (5.55%) and beverage services (4.15%); nevertheless, it contracted the catering service (-5.45%).

In the group of restaurants, registered dynamism the touristic restaurants, meats, grills, cevicherías (seafood restaurant), pollerías (chicken grill), restaurants, fast foods, among others; due to the variety of typical dishes and fusion, strategies of customer loyalty and discounts with different payment methods.
Telecommunications and Other Services of Information decreased 2.18%
Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector decreased by 2.18% during May of 2025, compared to the same month of May of 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, influenced by the contractive result of the Telecommunications (-1,96%) and Other Services of Information (-4.58%) subsectors.
The drop of the telecommunications subsectors was determined by the decrease of the telephone services (-5.4%) and services of transmission of data (-2.9%); being attenuated by the services of Internet and pay television (3.9%).
The contraction of the other services of information subsector are explained by the lower activity of television and radio programming (-6.3%), computer programming (-4.6%) and the edition activities (-4.5%); nevertheless, the activities of production and screening of films and programs of TV increased by 0.5%.
Finance and Insurance grew 0.12%
During May of 2025, the Finance and Insurance sector increased by 0.12% compared to May of 2024, due to the registration of greater deposits (4.66%), was dimmed by the contractive result of the credits (-0.27%). According to entities of the Financial System, increased by the deposits of Multiple Banking (7.5%) and Rural Banks (3.9%); meanwhile it decreased the deposits of the financial companies (-31.5%), of entities of Public Sector (-8.0%) and Municipal Banks (-0.5%).
On the other hand, it reduced the credits of Financial Companies (-31.0%), Companies of Credits -Edpymes (-3.4%), Rural Banks (-0.6%) and Municipal Banks (-0.1%); meanwhile, it increased the credits of entities of the public sector (7.3%) and of the Multiple Bank (0.8%).
Services Provided to Companies grew 3.19%
During May of 2025, Services Provided to Companies sector increased 3.19% compared to May of 2024, driven by travel agencies and tour operators (10.1%) and administrative and support services (3.3%), outstanding the greater services of security companies. In addition, it increased the activities of advertising and market research (2.9%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (2.6%).
Government Services grew 4.16%
During May of 2025, Government Services increased 4.16% compared to the month of May of 2024. This result was based in the greater activities performed by the institutions of Public Administration (4.17%), Defense (3.97%) and Other Government Services (4.02%).
