INEI: Consumer prices of Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.13% in June of 2025

In June of 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Lima Metropolitan area increased by 0.13% compared to the last month, accumulating to the sixth month of the year a variation of 1.30% and in the last 12 months (July 2024-June 2025) a variation of 1.69%; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy.


This result mainly answers to the increase of prices registered in the consumption divisions: Foods and non-alcoholic beverages (0.24%), Restaurants and hotels (0.25%) and Goods and different services (0.22%); followed by alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (0.39%), Furniture, articles for the household and routine household maintenance (0.30%), Recreation and culture (0.15%), Clothing items and footwear (0.10%), Health (0.08%) and Communications (0.01%).


On the other hand, the divisions that registered downward prices were: Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.14%) and Transportation (-0.05%).


The increase in Foods and non-alcoholic beverages was due to the greater prices of fishes and seafood (3.9%) such as Bonito fish (16.5%), hake (7.8%) and mullet (2.4%); fruits (2.9%) such as mango (38.6%), cucumber (15.3%), sweet granadilla (13.6%), Israel apple (13.6%), regular apple (10.3%), white grape (9.5%), papaya (5.5%) and silk banana (2.7%); and products such as coriander (20.5%), grounded Panca red pepper (7.2%) and grounded garlic (4.2%). In addition, it increased the prices of coffee, tea and cacao (2.1%) as well as chocolate products (3.8%), ground roasted coffee (3.2%) and instant coffee (2.1%); and mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit juices, vegetable juices (0.5%), such as carbonated beverages (0.6%).


On the other hand, it decreased the prices of milk, cheese and eggs (-1.8%) such as chicken eggs (-6.4%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sugar candies (-1.5%) such as brown (-4.5%) and white (-3.5%) sugar; meat (-0.5%) outstanding the eviscerated chicken (-1.4%), chicken innards (-1.2%), cuts such as wings (-1.1%), breast (-0.7%) and leg (-0.7%); and eviscerated hen (-1.0%). Likewise, it decreased the prices of vegetables, legumes, including potato and other tubers (-0.1%) such as celery (-17.1%), leek (-14.8%), yuca (-8.8%), chili pepper (-5.7%), spinach (-5.2%), yellow sweet potato (-4.4%) and onion (-4.1%); nevertheless, it increases the prices of corn (12.8%), carrot (11.8%) and green beans (8.5%).


In the division of Restaurants and hotels, it grew the prices of food services in restaurants and similar facilities (0.3%) such as tamales (1.1%), breaded chicken (0.7%), sandwiches (0.6%), ceviche (0.6%), pollo a la brasa (Peruvian grilled chicken) (0.3%), breakfast (0.3%) and menu in restaurants (0.1%); as well as service of beverages (0.2%) such as hot drinks (0.7%).


Among the Goods and different services that increased their prices were the beauty parlors and personal care services (0.3%) such as haircut for women (0.7%) and hair dyes (0.6%); and articles for personal attention (0.2%) such as toiletries for babies (0.5%), toothbrush (0.4%), toilet soap (0.3%), deodorant (0.3%) and disposable diapers (0.2%).


The reduction of prices in Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was explained by the drop of domestic propane gas (-1.2%), consumption of residential natural gas (-1.1%) due to the new tariff sheet effective since June 1 of 2025; and also, due to the rent of department in building (-0.1%).


Products with greater incidence in the variation of prices
During the sixth month of the year, the variation of the consumer prices in Lima Metropolitan area was mainly influenced by the increases of mango, Bonito fish, carrot, corn and sweet granadilla, that together contributed with 0.159 percentage points. These increases were dimed by the drop of prices in chicken eggs, eviscerated chicken, brown sugar, strawberry and mandarin.

Products with greater increase of prices
During June of 2025, from the 586 products of the family basket, 315 increased their prices, 134 decreased their prices and 137 did not registered variation. The greater increases were registered in mango (38.56%), coriander (20.46%), Bonito fish (16.49%), cucumber (15.33%), Israel apple (13.63%), sweet granadilla (13.57%), purple corn (12.95%) and corn (12.77%). Meanwhile, it decreased following products: celery (-17.15%), Parrot fish (-17.13%), leek (-14.75%), orange juice (-12.35%), ginger (-9.86%), strawberry (-9.04%), yuca (-8.75%) and chicken eggs (-6.45%).


Consumer prices without considering foods and energy increased by 0.07%
During June of 2025, the variation of the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area without considering foods and energy increased 0.07%.


Consumer prices at national level increased 0.08%
At national level, the CPI increased 0.08% in June, with an accumulated variation of 1.13% and of 1.73% in the last 12 months (July 2024 – June 2025). The greater increases were registered in Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.39%), Restaurants and hotels (0.26%), Goods and different services (0.24%), Furniture and household articles (0.21%), Recreation and culture (0.11%) and Health (0.10%).


In lower measurement, increased Foods and Non-Alcoholic beverages (0.05%), Clothing items and footwear (0.02%) and Education (0.01%). It also decreased Accommodation, water, electricity and gas (-0.15%) and Transportation (-0.06%). Communications did not registered variation.


Variation of prices by cities
During June of the current year, 16 cities registered increase of prices, the greatest increases were registered in the cities of Chachapoyas (0.32%), Pucallpa (0.24%), Arequipa (0.19%) and Cusco (0.17%). The greater reductions were observed in Chiclayo (-0.36%), Iquitos (-0.25%), Puerto Maldonado (-0.20%) and Piura (-0.19%).


Wholesale prices reduced by 0.34%
The Wholesale Price Index decreased 0.34% compared to the month of May, due to the lower prices registered of the agriculture national products (such as cherimoya, green peas, tomato, lemon, onion, paddy rice, hard yellow corn and starchy maize), livestock products (eggs, live chicken, pig and sheep farming) and manufacturing (brown sugar, industrial wheat flour, milled rice, canned fish, noodles and long past, drawn wires, gasohol, liquefied petroleum gas, and cotton fiber yarn). Meanwhile, fishing products increased (Bonito fish, hake, horse mackerel).


Nevertheless, the prices of imported products grew, such as those of the manufacturing sector (forklift, soy cakes, carbon black, nitrogenous fertilizers, mobile phone, cyanide, polyethylene resins and pneumatics for truck) and agribusiness sector (hard yellow corn, wheat and non-carded cotton).


Prices of machinery and equipment decreased by 0.58%
During the month under analysis, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment reduced by 0.58% compared to the month of May, influenced by the variation of the exchange rate that affected the prices of the imported capital goods, such as other machinery and equipment (single-phase electricity meters and electromedical equipment); farm machinery (agricultural tractors); machinery for the industry (bulldozers, wheel loaders, desktop computer and telephone exchanges) and the machinery for transportation (pick-up trucks and accessories for automotive vehicles such as rings, oil and air filters).


In addition, the prices of domestic capital goods, such as, industrial machinery (drills for excavation, springs for automotive vehicle and brakes), and other machinery (nets for a catch). Meanwhile that the national agricultural machinery did not registered variation.


Prices of construction materials decreased 0.25%
During June of 2025, the prices of construction materials decreased 0.25% compared to the previous month due to lower costs in four of the 10 groups that conform this indicator: tiles and mosaics (floor and wall coverings); metallic (hot rolled steel pipes, corrugated galvanized plate, hot rolled and cold rolled steel sheets, black wire and construction rods); electric supplies (cables: for energy, fixed installations and general use); and tubes and plastic accessories (PVC accessories for water and sewerage and tubes for sewerage).


On the other hand, it increased the prices of binders (Portland cement type I); woods (Tornillo, Cachimbo and plywood) and glasses (primary glasses) and bricks (Pandereta brick, Pastry brick and king kong brick). Nevertheless, the prices of the aggregated groups and concrete structures, kept their prices.
