38.1% of the population with some health problem went to a health facility to seek medical care

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), through the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), informed that during the quarter January-February-March of 2025, the 38.1% of the population that has a health problem went to a health facility to seek medical care.
From this total, 14.7% went to a pharmacy or apothecary; 13.3%, went to a health facility of the Ministry of Health (MINSA); 5.3%, went to a health facility of the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud); and 4.2%, went to a private practice.
According to the residency area, in the urban area, the place with greater medical consultation was the pharmacy or apothecary with 15.3%, followed by the establishments of MINSA with 11.4%. Meanwhile, in the rural area, 21.2% went to establishments of the Ministry of Health and 11.8% to a pharmacy or apothecary.
Compared to the same quarter of the last year, at national level, the proportion of persons that went to pharmacy or apothecary decreased by 3.3 percentage points (from 18.0% to 14.7%). In the urban area, the reduction was of 3.6 percentage points (from 18.9% to 15.3%) and, in the rural area, the reduction was of 2.0 percentage points (from 13.8% to 11.8%).
91.1% of the population has health insurance
During the quarter January-February-March 2025, 91.1% of the population declared to have some type of health insurance, whether public or private, figure that represents an increase of 2.2 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2024 (88.9%).
The coverage was greater in the rural area, where it reached the 93.6%, while in the urban area was of 90.5%. In both cases was observe dan increase compared to the last year: of 1.0 percentage point in the rural area and of 2.5 percentage point in the urban area, compare to the first quarter of the year 2024.
63.1% has Comprehensive Health Insurance
From the total of affiliated persons to some kind of insurance, 63.1% accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), percentage that represented an increase of 4.0 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2024 (59.1%).
In the urban area, 57.3% of the population was affiliated to the SIS, with an increase of 4.8 percentage points compared to the same period of the last year (52.5%). In the rural area, 87.6% of the population had this insurance, it means, 0.7 percentage point more than in the first quarter of 2024 (86.9%).
58.6% of the population of 18 years old and older has an account in the financial system
During the first quarter of 2025, 58.6% of the population of 18 years old and older declared they have at least an account in the financial system, whether of savings, salary, or a current fixed term.
According to residency urea, 62.6% of the urban population and the 39.5% of the rural population has an account in some financial institution.
Households with motorcycles and moto-taxis increase
During the quarter January-February-March of 2025, 16.9% of the households of the country declared having a bicycle; 15.4% a car or a truck; 13.1% a motorcycle; and 7.3% a moto-taxi.
Compared to the same quarter of the last year, the households with moto-taxi increased in 0.9 percentage point (from 6.9% to 8.3%), meanwhile that in the rural population did not register significant changes.
Likewise, the households with motorcycles increased at national level in 0.9 percentage point (from 12.2% to 13.1%) and in urban area in 1.3 percentage points (from 10.4% to 11.7%). On the other hand, in the rural area decreased in 1.1 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2024.
