Traffic Flow of vehicles at national level increased by 2.3%

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in April of 2025, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow, the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths increased by 2.3% compared to the same month of the last year. In the last twelve months (May 2024 – April 2025), this rate grew by 3.7%, compared to the same period of the last year.
According to the Technical Report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooth, this monthly result is based in the increase of the traffic flow of heavy-duty (2,1%) and light-duty (2,4%) vehicles.
Traffic flow of light-duty units grew by 2.4%
During April of 2025, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths increased by 2.4% compared to the same month of the last year. This result was explained by the greater movement of national and international tourists during the long holyday of Holy Week, as well as the performance of gastronomic events such as Gochisō 2025 and the Feast of the Peruvian Sweet in Lima.
Also influenced the development of Gastromaq Sur, specialized fair that reunited suppliers and professionals of hotels, restaurants and coffee shops in Arequipa. These events boosted the accommodation, restaurants and retail commerce sectors, promoting the tourism in different regions of the country.
Tollbooths with greater vehicle flow were:
North: Ancash (Huarmey 29.8%), Piura (Paita 27.0%, Chulucanas 10.8%, Piura Sullana 5.2%), La
Libertad (Chicama 20.7%, Pacanguilla 18.9%, Viru 7.8%), San Martín (Aguas Claras 16.5%, Pongo 7.5%, Moyobamba 3.5%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 7.1%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca–Pucará 6.5%).
Center: Lima (Fortaleza 33.0%, Serpentine of Pasamayo 31.5%, Corcona 25.7%, Variant of Pasamayo 14.8%, El Paraíso 12.8%) and Junín (Casaracra 26.5%, Quiulla 12.7%).
South: Ica (Jahuay Chincha 32.4%, Marcona 8.6%), Arequipa (Matarani Concession 28.7%, Patahuasi 14.0%, Uchumayo Concession 6.5%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 22.7%), Moquegua (Ilo 14.2%, Pampa Cuellar 8.9%) and Apurímac (Pichirhua 8.4%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased by 2.1%
During April of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooths increased by 2.1% compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior responds to a greater demand of the service of heavy-duty cargo transportation for the development of livestock activities, driven by the high volumes of poultry, fresh milk swine, beef cattle and eggs production, mainly.
In addition, it contributed to this result the continental fishing, due to the capture of species for consumption in fresh state and preparation of curing; mining activity, associated to the high extraction of copper, gold, zinc, silver and lead; and the construction, reflected in the execution of public projects of the National Government such as the improvement of hospitals, works of basic services, road infrastructure and works of risk prevention.

Center: Lima (Fortaleza 11.9%, Serpentine of Pasamayo 9.0%, El Paraíso 8.2%, Variant of Pasamayo 4.9%) and Junín (Quiulla 2.1%).
South: Apurímac (Pichirhua 14.2%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 14.1%), Arequipa (Uchumayo Concession 12.9%, Patahuasi 9.2%, Matarani Concession 8.6%), Ica (Marcona 12.8%, Jahuay
Chincha 11.6%) and Moquegua (Ilo 11.9%, Pampa Cuellar 4.3%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 1.6%
During April of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 1.6% compared to April of 2024, driven by the greater movement of units such trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty vehicles of 3 axle (0.8%), 4 axle (2.4%), 5 axle (3.7%), 6 axle (1.5%) and 7 axle (2.6%).
