National production grew 1.40% in April of 2025

During April of 2025, the national production increased by 1.40% compared to the same month of the last year, accumulating 13 consecutive months of growth, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). This result was based in the positive development of various sectors, among others: Mining and Hydrocarbons; Other Services; Commerce; Transportation, Storage and Courier; Services of Government; Services Provided to Companies; Accommodation and Restaurants; and Electricity, Gas and Water. On the hand, six sectors showed an unfavourable behavior.

It is worth to mention that, during the month under analysis, Holy Week was celebrated, which holidays were registered during April, unlike previous years, when the holydays were declared during March.
Likewise, the INEI informed that between January and April of 2025, the productive activity of the country grew 3.26%, and in the annualized period (May 2024 - April 2025), the increase was of 3.62%.


Production of the Agribusiness sector decreased 7.53%
The Agribusiness sector reduced by 7.53% compared to April of 2024, due mainly to the lower production of the agriculture subsector (-11.49%), affected by lower volumes of raw cotton (-46.3%), paddy rice (-43.9%), quinoa (-23.7%), asparagus (-23.7%), hard yellow corn (-14.6%), potato (-13.2%) and corn (-12.2%). This contraction was attributable mainly to the delay or lower sowing by water shortages in the north coast and the low level of rainfalls in the south at the closure of 2024.

On the other hand, the livestock subsector grew 2.60% driven by a greater production of swine (4.0%), fresh milk (3.7%), poultry (3.1%) and beef cattle (1.1%).


Fishing sector decreased 24.26%
During April of 2025, the Fishing sector decreased 24.26% compared to the same month of 2024, due to the lower landing of marine species (-26.30%) intended for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), that totalized 440,273 tons, against the 778,491 tons of the same month of 2024, which represented a reduction of 43.45%. The fishing season of anchovy in the north-center zone of the Peruvian coastline started in April 22, meanwhile that in 2024 started in April 16. The lower landings were observed in the ports of Malabrigo (La Libertad), Chimbote (Ancash), Callao and Chancay (Lima).

On the other hand, the fishing for direct human consumption increased 13.20%, with greater captures for species observed in two of its four destinations, is the case of frozen (21.7%) and for consumption in fresh state (11.5%).
The continental fishing also grew 4.29%, driven by the greater landing of species for fresh consumption (9.8%) and preparation for curing (6.0%).


Mining and Hydrocarbons grew 8.55%
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector expanded 8.55% in April of 2025, compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the metal-mining subsector (10.64%), due to a greater volume of copper (8.4%), zinc (49.4%), silver (18.5%), lead (24.5%), gold (2.9%), iron (5.8%) and tin (1.8%) production. Just the molybdenum registered a decrease (-9.0%).

On the other hand, the hydrocarbons subsector reduced by 4.38%, affected by the lower exploitation of natural gas liquids (-16.2%) and natural gas (-14.5%). Nevertheless, the extraction of crude oil increased (26.5%).


Manufacturing sector decreased 2.86%
During April of 2025, the Manufacturing sector contracted by 2.86%, compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior is explained by the lower activity of the primary manufacturing (-6.24%) and non-primary manufacturing (-1.52%) subsectors.

Primary manufacturing subsector contracted by the lower preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceous and molluscs (-17.73%), production of the primary product of precious metals and other non-ferrous metals (-3.80%) and preparation and conservation of meat (-1.87%); nevertheless, the manufacture of products of the refined petroleum products (11.80%) and preparation of sugar (8.58%).
In the non-primary manufacturing subsector, the lower production of intermediate products (-8.83%) was partially compensated by the growth of the consumption goods (2.03%) as well as the growth of capital goods (4.08%).


Electricity, Gas and Water increased 1.90%
Electricity, Gas and Water sector grew 1.90%, based in the greater generation of electric energy (2.42%) and gas distribution (0.76%), meanwhile, it decreased the water production (-1.63%).
The dynamism of the electricity subsector was registered in the area of non-conventional renewable origin energy (wind-solar) by 34,55% and of hydroelectric origin by 0.62%; nevertheless, the thermoelectric origin energy decreased -2.12%.

The growth of gas distribution was based in the greater demand of Companies (7.0%) and of establishments of Vehicular Natural Gas (7.5%); on the other hand, the gas distribution to Electric Power stations (-2.4%). The lower production of water was registered in the following companies: Sedapal (-2.4%), Epsel (-1.3%), Sedapar (-0.5%) and EPS Grau (-0.4%); nevertheless, the production of the companies: Sedachimbote (7,2%) and Sedalib (5,5%), among others increased.

The production of Construction sector decreased by 1.30%
Construction sector reduced by 1.30%, reflected in the lower physical progress of public works (- 4.09%) and decrease of the domestic cement consumption (-0.08%). The physical progress of public works contracted in the Regional and Local area; due to the lower development of projects of non-residential buildings and risk prevention works; meanwhile, the investment in the road infrastructure and in works of basic services was greater.

In the decrease of the domestic cement consumption influenced the lower execution in works of infrastructure improvement in shopping centers, mining centers, distribution works of electric networks, among the main ones.


Commerce Sector registered a growth of 2.83%
During April of 2025, the Commerce sector increased by 2.83%, driven by the dynamism of the wholesale commerce (2.17%), due to greater purchases of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs; as well as it increased the demand of household goods and heavy-duty machinery, medical and office equipment. In addition, the greater commercialization of fuels, lubricants and oils.

The retail sale grew by 3.38% mainly by foods and beverages in supermarkets, minimarkets and discount stores. In addition, the greater sale of pharmaceutical, medicinal, cosmetic products and toiletries, before the increase of sale points; as well as fuels, in response of the greater vehicular flow by Holly Week.

The automotive commerce increased 5.97% explained by the greater demand of light and heavy-duty vehicles, and of maintenance and repair services, before advertising campaigns. Likewise, the sale and repair of motorcycles, its parts and accessories, due to a greater offer of trademarks in the market.


Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased by 4.84%
Transportation, Storage and Courier sector grew 4.84%, compared to the month of April of 2024. This was possible due to the positive result of the transportation subsectors (3.42%), as well as the storage and courier subsectors (10.52%).

In the evolution of the transportation subsector influenced the greater transportation by air (12.04%) explained by the increase of the movement of passengers and cargo, national and international.
In addition, road transportation and pipeline transportation registered a slight increase (0.48%), due to the greater movement in road of passengers (0.2%) and cargo (1.1%). It must be noted that the development of the transportation of passengers by road was affected by a day of partial suspension of routes in Lima Metropolitan area, mainly.
Likewise, the dynamism of the transportation by rail outstood (18.0%), both of passengers, as well as cargo. The transportation by waterways registered a growth of 0.61% before a greater transportation of merchandise by sea; as well as of passengers and cargo by river flow.

The increase of the storage and Courier subsector was determined by greater services of storage and support activities to the transportation (10.76%), as well as postal and courier services (0.61%).


Production of Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased by 4.64%
During the month under study, the Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased by 4.64%, as a result of the growth of the restaurants (4.55%) and accommodation (13,35%) subsectors. The behavior of the restaurant’s subsector was based in the evolution of the restaurants service (4.46%), catering services (34.56%), food services for companies of transportation and concessionaires (4.62%) and beverage service (3,90%).

In the restaurants group, outstood the cevicherias (seafood restaurants), meats and grills, international food, fast foods restaurants, pollerías (chicken grill restaurants), restaurants, among others; explained by the long weekend by Holy Week, remodeling of environments and presentation of new gastronomic proposals; added to the performance of gastronomic fairs, among others.


Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector reduced by 1.98%
During April of 2025, the Telecommunications and Other Services of Information was affected by -1.98%, due to the contractive variation of the Telecommunications subsectors (-1.80%) and Other Services of Information (-3.37%). In the Telecommunications subsectors influenced the lower demand of telephone services (-5.4%); situation attenuated by the greater services of data transmission (4.7%) and Internet services and pay TV (3.7%).

The other services of information subsector contracted 3.37% due to the negative behavior of the production and screening of films and television shows (-8.9%), edition activities (-6.2%), television and radio programming (-4.4%) and computer programing (-1.4%).


Production of Financial and Insurance sector decreased by 0.76%
The Financial and Insurance sector reduced by 0.76%, compared to the same month of the year 2024. This was explained by the lower credits of Financial Companies (-31.7%), Consumer Credit Companies - Edpyme (-3.6%), Rural Banks (-0.6%) and Municipal Savings (-0.1%), that was dimmed by the increase of financial entities of the public sector (7.4%) and Multiple Banking (0.7%).

In addition, the fall of the sector was dimmed by the favorable result of the deposits of the multiple Banking (5.9%) and Rural Banks (2.8%).


The sector Services Provided to Companies increased by 3.42%
The sector Services Provided to Companies increased by 3.42%, compared to the same month of the year 2024. This behavior was based in the positive result of travel agencies and tour operators (10.9%), activities of administrative and support to companies’ services (3,8%), professionals, scientific and technical activities (2.7%) and advertising and market research (2.7%).


Government Services sector increased by 4.23%
During the fourth month of this year, the Government Services sector grew 4.23%, in response to the greater activities performed by the institutions of the Public Administration by 4.22%, Defense 4.45% and Other Government Services by 3.89%.
