More men than women access the Internet

During the first quarter of 2025, 80.5% of men and 77.5% of women of 6 years old and older sed the Internet, registering a difference of 3.0 percentage points in favour of men. This was revealed in the National Household Survey (ENAHO), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in its technical report Statistics with Gender Perspective.
Greater access to Internet among those that have superior education level
According to the ENAHO, during the first quarter of 2025, 98.4% of women and 98.0% of men with university superior education accessed the Internet. Likewise, among those that have non-university superior education level, 96.3% of female and 95.9% of male used the Internet service. In the secondary level, 88.1% of female and 87.2% of male accessed to the Internet. In the primary level, 48.7% of female and 52.8% of male accessed to the Internet.
More women than men have health insurance
During the first quarter of 2025, 92.9% of women have some health insurance, exceeding in 3.6 percentage points to that of men (89.3%). Compared with the same quarter of the last year, the coverage of insurances increased in 2.4 percentage points in women and 1.9 percentage points in men.
By type of insurance, 65.2% of women have the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), 23.5% have the EsSalud and 4.2% is affiliated to other insurances. In the case of men, 61.0% have the SIS, the 23.2% is affiliated to EsSalud and the 5.0% is affiliated to other type of insurance.
More women suffer from chronic illnesses
During the first quarter of 2025, 45.4% of women registered they had some chronic health problem overcoming in 9.0 percentage points to that of men (36.4%). By age group, the older adults (60 years old and older) were the most affected: 83.9% of women and 74.9% of men of this group age had chronic illnesses.
Men have more access to the financial system
During the first quarter of 2025, 60.4% of men and 56.9% of women of 18 years old and older had some account in the financial system (of savings, fixed term or current). Compared to the same period of 2024, this proportion decreased in 1.1 percentage points in man and in 2.4 percentage points in women.
By education level, 84.9% of men and 80.1% of women with university superior education level have a financial account. Among those that have a non-university superior education level, the proportion was of: 76.8% in men and 72.4% in women. At secondary education level, that has access to the financial system 47.2% of men and 45.2% of women.
Greater female participation in Commerce and Services
According to the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), during the first quarter of 2025 70.0% of employed population works in Commerce (25.6%) and Services (44.4%) sector, meanwhile that in men this participation was of 52.4%.
In Agriculture, Fishing and Mining sectors work 21.6% of women and 27.4% of men. In Manufacturing, the participation was of 7.6% in women and 8.8% in men. In Construction, work the 11.4% of men and barely 0.7% of women.
More girls than boys attended early education
In 2024, 93.6% of girls and 91.7% of boys of 3 to 5 years old attended early education, registering a difference of 1.9 percentage points in favour of girls.
In primary level, the attendance was of 98.5% in girls and 97.6% in boys, difference of 0.9 percentage points. In secondary level, 86.9% of female adolescents attended classes, against the 86.4% of male adolescents, which represented an advantage of 0.5 percentage points for women.
