90.2% of children and adolescents access to the Internet through a cellphone

During the first quarter of 2025, 90.2% of the population of 6 to 17 years old Access the Internet through a cellphone, a figure that represents an increase of 3.5 percentage points compared to the same period of 2024 (86.7%), according to the informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report State of the Childhood and Adolescence, based in the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
Nevertheless, the access to the Internet from home registered a decrease: just the 25.1% of this age group used the Internet at home, 7.7 percentage points less than the first quarter of 2024 (32.8%).
More than the half of the underage children with health problem sought medical attention
The INEI reported that 17.7% of the population under 18 years old declared they had suffered some health problem or chronic discomfort. From this group, 52.7% sought medical attention to receive medical attention.
By comparing the first quarters of 2024 and 2025, it is observed an increase of 4.5 percentage points in those that access the establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), by going from 19.3% to 23.8%. On the other hand, the percentage of those that sought medical attention in pharmacies reduced in 7.4 percentage points (from 18.7% to 11.3%).
95.5% of children under the age of 18 have some health insurance
During the first quarter of 2025, 95.5% of the population under 18 years old accessed to some type of health insurance, either public or private. This coverage grew by 1.7 percentage points compared to the same period of the last year (93.8%).
The greater growth was registered in the exclusive access to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), that went from 68.3% to 71.9%, it means, an increase of 3.6 percentage points. On the other hand, the exclusive access to EsSalud reduced from 22.3% to 20.6%.
In the urban area, 66.3% of the underage population is affiliated to the SIS, 4.8 percentage points more than in the same quarter of 2024 (61.5%).
61.2% of adolescents of 14 to 17 years old just study
Between January and March of 2025, 61.2% of adolescents of 14 to 17 years old has dedicated exclusively to study, an increase of 4.8 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year (56.4%).
Likewise, 16.7% studies and helps in some economic and domestic activity, which represented a reduction of 2.5 percentage points compared to the last year (19.2%). In addition it was observed a decrease in the adolescents that neither study or work (14.9%) and in those that just work (7.3%), with drops of 1.4 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively.
47.1% of households have at least a child under 18 years old among their members
According to the ENAHO, during the first quarter of 2025, 47.1% of households of the country had among their members at least one person under 18 years old, which represented a reduction of 3.2 percentage points compared to the same period of 2024 (50.3%).
In the urban area, this proportion was of 47.8%, and in the rural area the proportion was of 44.7%; both percentages decreased compared to the lasty year, by 3.0 and 3.6 percentage points, respectively.
67.9% of households with children underage are nuclear
During the first quarter of 2025, 67.9% of the households with at least a child underage are nuclear households, it means composed by the male or female head of household and his/her spouse with children, or just by the father or mother with one or more children. This type of household decreased by 2.8 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2024 (70.7%).
On the other hand, extended households – those where in addition lives other relatives— represented 28.0%, registering an increase of 2.6 percentage points compared to the same period of the last year (25.4%).
