INEI and local governments of Tumbes join forces to perform 2025 National Censuses

During April of 2025, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector registered a growth of 8.55% compared to the same month of the last year, mainly driven by the increase of the metal-mining subsector (10.64%).
In order to add support to the dissemination and implementation of 2025 National Censuses: XIII of Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities, that will start in August, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) signed a cooperation agreement with the Regional Government of Tumbes and different district municipalities of the region.
During the ceremony performed in the Regional Government headquarters, the chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán Flores, informed that in Tumbes, agreements already had been signed with the regional government and more than 10 municipalities. He also emphasized the importance of coordinate efforts with local authorities, because its support will be key for the good development of the census process and to encourage the citizen participation.
The chief of the INEI also added that the preparatory activities are completing, in order to ensure that no Peruvian or foreigner resident left without being registered. In addition, he also appreciated the commitment of the regional and local governments in the promotion of the importance of the censuses at national level.
As part of this strategy, cooperation agreements were signed with the Provincial Municipality of Tumbes and the District Municipality of Corrales. In representation of this institutions, the documents were signed by the Provincial Mayor, Mr. Hildebrando Antón Navarro, and the District Mayoress, Mrs. Yuvitza Zárate Martínez.
Pilot Census starts in June 10 in four districts
Within the framework of the preparatory actions, Morán Flores announced that the next June 10 will start the II Experimental Census in four districts of country. This stage will allow to validate the census registration procedures, evaluate the understanding of the census questionnaire and measure the operative times.
The districts selected are: San Borja and Villa El Salvador (Lima), Yanacancha (Pasco) and Belén (Loreto), covering urban and rural areas of the Coast, Highlands and Rainforest.
Socio-economic indicators of Tumbes
- The population of the department of Tumbes totalized 270,134 persons.
- In Tumbes, 47 mil 700 persons are part of the employed population, it means they have employment.
- Regional GDP represents the 0.5% of the national total.
- In May, consumer prices increased 0.52%.
