42 out of 100 foreigners who enter Peru arrived from Chile

During the first quarter of 2025, Chile was the main country of origin of the foreigners that entered Peru, with a participation of 42.2%. Followed by United States (11.4%), Ecuador (6.6%), Bolivia (7.3%), Colombia (6.6%), Spain (4.5%), Brazil (4.3%), Panama (3.4%), Mexico and Argentina (2.3% each one), France (1.7%), Netherlands (1.5%), Canada (0.6%) and other countries (1.6%).
This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), based on the data of the National Migration Office. According to the report Peru: Migratory Movement of International Entries and Exits, corresponding to the period January-March of 2025, the entry of foreigners to the country totalized 1 million 34 thousand 873 persons, which represented an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period of 2024.
Entered more men than women
From the total of foreigners that entered the country, 52.4% were men (542 thousand 357) and 47.6% women (462 thousand 516). Compared to the first quarter of the last year, men’s income increased by 5.7% and that of women increased by 4.8%.
Adults between 30 and 59-years old lead incomes to the country
By age groups, 52.8% of foreigners that entered Peru are between 30 and 56 years old; 20.1% are older adults, 18.4% are between 15 and 26 years old and 8.7% are under 15 years old.
Jorge Chávez Airport concentrated the majority of incomes
Between January and March of 2025, the main point of entry of the country was the Jorge Chavez International Airport, with 510 thousand 736 movements, followed by the border checkpoint of Santa Rosa, in Tacna, with 342 thousand 720. Between both concentrated the 82.6% of the total of entries of foreigners.
Exits of foreigners of the country grew 6.7%
In the same period, were registered 1 million 60 thousand 100 movements of exits of foreigners from Peru, which represented an increase of 6.7% compared to the first quarter of 2024. From the total, 52.3% were men and 47.7% were women.
More Peruvians traveled abroad: exits increased by 8.4%
During the first quarter of 2025, were registered 1 million 106 thousand 460 movements of exits of Peruvians abroad, which meant an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period of the last year. From the total, 46.8% corresponded to men and 50.2% corresponded to women.
The majority of Peruvians that exits are between 30 and 59 years old
According to age group, 60.4% of Peruvians that exits the country are between 30 and 56 years old; 16.7% are young people of 15 to 26 years old; 13.7% older adults of 60 years old and older and 6.2% under 15 years old.
Jorge Chávez Airport leads international exits.
51.6% of the exits of Peruvians was performed by the Migration Check Posts of the International Airport, followed by Santa Rosa (Tacna), with 31.6%. Both control points concentrated the 83.8% of the total of international exits of Peruvian citizens.
Total migratory flow grew 7.6%
During the first quarter of 2025, the total movement of entries and international exits – of Peruvians and foreigners – reached 4 million 273 thousand 627 records, figure that represents an increase of 7.6% compared to the same period of 2024. This growth was explained by the greater number of entries (7.7%) and exits (7.6%) registered during the mentioned period.
