The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) presented the results of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) of 2024, which revealed that the 21.7% of women of 40 to 69 years old manifested being performed the clinical breast examination in the last 12 months; meanwhile, in the group of 40 to 49 years old this mentioned proportion represented the 21.1%. haberse realizado el examen clínico de mama en los últimos 12 meses; mientras que, en el grupo de 40 a 49 años dicha proporción representó el 21.1%.

On the other hand, in the 2024 ENDES makes clear that, in the last 24 months, 24.6% of the population of 18 to 75 years old performed a health check to rule out any type of cancer. It is worth to mention that the percentage in women (35.7%) was higher in 23.3 percentage points compared to that of men (12.4%).

The presentation event was led by the Doctor Gaspar Morán Flores, chief of the INEI, who was accompanied by Eric Peña, vice minister of public health of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), and Mr. Hugo González, representative in Peru of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Leendert Nederveen representative of the Pan American Health Organization: PAHO/WHO.

26.0% of women in child-bearing age have anemia.
The INEI informed that during the year 2024, the prevalence of anemia in women of 15 to 49 years old reached 26.0%, a higher result in 2.3 percentage points compared to the results reached in 2023 (23.7%), according to the new guideline WHO 2024 (RM 251-2024-MINSA).

According to place of residence, was observed a greater prevalence of anemia in women in child-bearing age (15-49 years old) of rural area (26.3%) and the departments of Loreto (34.3%) and Madre de Dios (33.8%).

Situation of the older adult population

14.6% of the population of the country is 60 years old and older
The INEI informed that according to the information obtained from the 2024 ENDES 2024, 14.6% of the population is persons of 60 years old and older from which the 6.5% lives in households with overcrowding, 11.9% lives alone or with persons that are not family members and 30.8% lives just with persons of 17 years old and younger.


58.2% of the population of 60 years old and older has a comorbidity in the year 2024
During the year 2024, 58.2% of persons of 60 years old and older of the country have a comorbidity, such as arterial hypertension, obesity and diabetes mellitus.

Among the risk factors that affected to this population group, outstood the hypertension that despite it affect the 48.3% in the year 2024, showed a decrease of 1.9 percentage point compared to the year 2023 (50.2%).

Regarding the overweight in the population of 60 years old and older, a decrease by going from 26.5% in the year 2023 to 24.4% in the year 2024 was noted. On the other hand, the obesity in this age group increased from 14.3% to 17.2% in the year 2024.
