2025 National Censuses: Digital tools will be incorporated to update the data collection

From Huaraz, the chief of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, announced that the 2025 National Censuses: XII of Population, VII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities Will be carried out between August and October, and will mark a milestone by incorporating digital tools for gathering information.


Morán Flores outstood that for the first time, the census officer will use electronic devices (tablets) acquired with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) which will allow Peru to be at the forefront, aligned with the National Statistical Offices around the world.


“In the 2017 censuses, printed forms still be used. Today we make a great leap leaving behind the paper. Although we already use tablets in surveys, this will be the first time that is applied in the National Censuses of Population”, he stated. He also added that the use of these tools will reduce the processing times and will improve the quality of data, thanks to features such as automatic validations and georeferenced of registered houses.


In the same way, he also informed that, for security, the census officers will not enter the houses: the qualified informer will answer the qualified informer will answer from the front door. Tablets will have a “help button” to immediately report any situation of risk.


The announcement was performed in the presence of the general manager of the Regional Government of Ancash, Marco La Rosa Sánchez Paredes, Esq., and other regional authorities. The chief of the INEI called on the three levels of government, the civil society and the citizenship to actively participate and to ensure success of this important statistical operation.


Municipalities will support in the performance of the census

The chief of the INEI informed that there are being coordinated cooperation agreements with 20 provincial and 146 district municipalities. These agreements will allow to articulate training actions, dissemination actions, convening and registration process, backed up by the regional and local governments.


INEI signs agreement with peasant communities
During the ceremony, cooperation agreements were signed with peasant communities, reaffirming its commitment to with the census process and ensuring the inclusion of all sectors of the country.


Ancash economic and social indicators
In another time, Morán Flores informed that in 2024 the monetary poverty in Ancash reduced 22.8%, which represented an improve of 2.2 percentage points compared to 2023.


In Huaraz, the employed population during the first quarter of 2025 totalized 64.5 thousand persons. Nevertheless, the rate of labor informality in the city placed in 64.6% during the period April 2024 – March 2025.


About the access of basic services of the households of the region, 91.5% of the households have with water by public supply system inside the home, 80.3% have drainage, 96.7% access to electric energy, 26.4% cook with gas (LPG or natural) and 95.7% have at least one member with cellphone.
