National production increased 4.67% in March of 2025

In March of 2025, the national production grew by 4.67%, explained by the positive development of most sectors, among those that outstood were mining and hydrocarbons; other services; transportation, storage and courier; commerce; manufacturing and construction.
Through the technical report the National Production prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that during the period January-March of the current year, the productive activity of the country increased 3.92% and in the annualized period (April 2024-March 2025) increased by 3.95%.
It is worth to mention that during March of 2024, comparison month, holy Week festivities were registered, while during this year the celebration was performed during April.
Agribusiness sector increased by 3.34%
Agribusiness sector registered a growth of 3.34% compared to March of 2024, based in the agriculture subsector (3.63%), before the greater volumes of production of olives (252.1%), artichoke (138.4%), grape (127.1%), sugar cane (16.9%), coffee (9.5%), avocado (8.4%) and paddy rice (4.1%). This result was explained by the greater area sown of the main crops, favoured by the thermal conditions closed to its normal average, as well as availability of water resource.
In addition, the livestock subsector increased by 2.89%, due to greater volumes of fresh milk production (4.1%), swine (3.6%), poultry (3.4%) and beef cattle (1,6%), among others.
Fishing sector grew by 29.12%
During March of 2025, fishing sector increased by 29.12% compared to the same month of the last year. This was due to the greater landing registered of species of maritime origin (34.94%), intended to indirect human consumption (anchovy for fish meal and fish oil) by going from 800 tons in March 2024 to 56,526 tons in March of 2025; this result corresponds to the south zone (Ilo and Mollendo).
In addition, a greater extraction of species for direct human consumption was reported (18.68%), intended for frozen (68.8%), preparation of canning (31.7%) and preparation of curing (10.3%). On the other hand, continental origin fishing increased 5.22% associated to the greater extraction of species for fresh state consumption (6.2%), for frozen (1.8%) and preparation of curing (2.0%).
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 7.04%
The INEI informed that the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew by 7.04% compared to the same month of the last year. The aforementioned performance was determined by the dynamism of the activity of the metal mining subsector (7.45%), before the greater volume of production of copper (4.8%), zinc (17.5%), molybdenum (15.9%), silver (19.6%), lead (17.3%) and gold (0.03%); meanwhile the production of iron (-0.2%) and tin (-3.0%).
Hydrocarbons subsector increased by 4.52% before the greater extraction of crude oil (16.3%) and of natural gas (1.6%). Nevertheless, the volume of extraction of natural gas liquids reduced (-0.5%).
Production of Manufacturing sector increased by 3.20%
The INEI informed that during March of 2025, the manufacturing sector grew by 3.20%, compared to the same month of the last year; due to the favorable result of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (5.34%). Nevertheless, the primary manufacturing sector decreased (-3.79%)
The increase of the non-primary manufacturing sector was explained by the greater production of the consumption goods industry (5.98%), intermediate goods (1.19%) and capital goods (35.97%). The lower production of the primary manufacturing subsector was due to the manufacturing of precious metals and other non-ferrous metals (-26.88%). Nevertheless, this result was attenuated by the greater activity of preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceans and molluscs (183.18%). It is worth to mention that the information of March of 2025, relating to fish meal was updated by the INEI based on the processing reports of maritime hydrologic resources, depending on use. In addition, positive results were achieved in the sugar processing (14.58%), preparation and preserving of meat (3.46%), as well as the product manufacture of the crude oil refining (2.78%).
Electricity, Gas and Water sector increased by 4.31%
The electricity, gas and water sector increased by 4.31% compared to the same month of the year 2024; driven by the greater generation of electric energy (5.18%) and gas distribution (4.41%); behavior dimmed by the decrease of water production (-1.93%).
The growth of the electricity subsector was determined by the dynamism of energy of non-conventional renewable origin (Eolic-solar) by 14.00%, of thermoelectric origin by 10.46% and of hydraulic origin by 1.31%. The greater distribution of gas was explained by the increase in the demand of companies (11.0%), of retailing establishments of Vehicular Natural Gas (10.0%) and of Electric Power Generators (2.2%).
On the other hand, water subsector was affected by the lower generation of the following companies: EPS Grau (-4.6%), Sedapar (-3.4%), Sedapal (-2.3%), Epsel (-2.2%), among the main ones. However, the water production increased in the following companies: Sedalib (4.2%) and Seda Chimbote (7.2%), among others.
Production of Construction sector increased by 5.22%
Construction sector grew by 5.22% compared to March of 2024, as a result of the greater domestic cement consumption (6.52%) and the physical progress of public works (2.13%). The growth of domestic cement consumption was associated to the progress of works of private sector such as, infrastructure in industrial sites and industrial warehouses, in mining centers, shopping centers, works of electric distribution, multi-family buildings, among others.
The physical progress of public works registered in the areas of National and Local Government; therefore, works of road infrastructure and works of basic services outstood; meanwhile works of non-residential buildings, as well as works of risk prevention reduced.
Commerce sector increased by 3.90%
During March of 2025, commerce sector grew by 3.90%, compared to March of the year 2024. This performance was mainly driven by the dynamism of the wholesale commerce (3.91%), due to the greater sales of products of electronic security, industrial security, personal protection, veterinary medicines and natural products; as well as fuels and lubricants. In addition, the sale of foods, beverages and tobacco, household goods, as well as machinery and equipment.
The retail sale increased by 3.71%, driven by the demand of food products in supermarkets, mini-markets, convenience stores and discount stores, as well as by the greater sale of fuels, and pharmaceutical, medicinal, cosmetic products and toiletries. In addition, the automotive commerce increased by 4.64%, due to the greater demand of vehicles (light and heavy) and maintenance and repair service, driven by campaigns such as “Neofest 2025”, “Honda Fest”, “FIAT Summer Sale”, among other events. It also grew the sale and repair of motorcycles, its parts and accessories, by commercial strategies and new contracts.
Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased 8.82%
During March of 2025, transportation, storage and Courier sector grew by 8.82%, compared to the same month of the last year; due to the favorable result of the transportation (6.77% and storage and courier (14.10%) subsectors.
The positive performance of the transportation subsector was observed in the inland and pipping transportation division (3.73%), in the road transport segment due to the greater traffic of passengers (2.4%) and load (5.5%). The same trend registered the rail transportation (15.0%), by the greater movement of passengers and load and the pipping transportation (3.1%), that mobilized natural gas and crude oil. As well as, the air transportation (13.47%), due to the greater movement of passengers and cargo, domestic and international. The transportation by waterways increased by 16.21% before the greater mobilization of merchandise by waterways, as well as passengers and cargo by river route.
In the growth of the storage and Courier subsector influenced the greater services of storage and support activities to the transportation (13.96%) and of postal and courier services (16.96%).
Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased by 1.34%
The accommodation and restaurant sector registered a positive variation of 1.34%, compared to March of 2024. This positive performance was based by the behavior of the restaurants (1.34%) and accommodation (1.21%) subsectors. The positive variation of the restaurant’s subsector was driven by the greater volumes of sale in the restaurants service (1.27%), catering services (36.43%), food services for transportation companies and concessionaries (0.89%) and beverage service (0.99%).
In the restaurants group showed dynamism the touristic restaurants, meats and grills, international food, coffee restaurants, restaurants, cevicherías (seafood restaurants), among others; determined by the preference of the consumer public, discount politics, performance of events and establishment of alliances with companies linked to tourism. Contributed in the result of the sector the celebrations of the Women’s Day, Day of the Algarrobina and International Festival of Grape Harvest 2025, among the main ones.
Telecommunications and Other Services sector decreased by 0.19%
Telecommunications and other services of information sector reduced by 0.19%, compared with March of 2024. In this behavior influenced the negative result of the telecommunications subsector 2024. In this behavior influenced the negative result of the telecommunications subsector (-0.50%); meanwhile the other services of information subsector grew (1.76%).
The contractive result of the telecommunication subsector was determined by the decrease of telephony services (-3.9%); which was attenuated by the increase of the Internet services and subscription TV (4.3%) and services of data transmission (1.7%). In the behavior of the other services of information subsector contributed the dynamism of the activity of television and radio programming (7.8%), computer programing (2.1%) and of edition (1.9%); nevertheless, the activities of production and exhibition of films and TV programs reduced (-9.4%).
Financial and Insurance sector increased 1.64%
The INEI informed that the financial and insurance sector increased 1.64%, compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior was associated to the greater credits (1.15%) and deposits (6.37%) of the multiple banking. According to segment, mortgage credits (4.3%) and corporate loans (1.0%) increased; meanwhile, consumption credits decreased (-1.2%).
Corporate loans were mostly channeled towards commerce; transportation; storage and communications; financial intermediation; agriculture; livestock, hunting and silviculture; public administration; health social services and manufacturing industry. The growth of the deposits of multiple banking was associated to the positive performance of savings deposits (12.45%), demand deposits (4.47%) and fixed-term deposits (3.19%).
Sector Services Provided to Companies increased by 4.76%
During March of 2025, the sector services provided to companies grew 4.76%, compared to the third month of the year 2024, in response to the greater activity of travel agencies and tour operators (15.4%), administrative services and support to companies’ activities (5.5%), professional, scientific and technical activities (3.7%) and advertising and market research (3.4%).
Government services increased by 4.39%
Government services grew 4.39%, compared to March of 2024. This performance was based in the greater activities performed by the institutions of Public Administration (4.50%), followed by Defense (2.92%) and other services of government (4.53%).
