Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area grew 2.2% between the months of February and April of 2025

During the quarter February-Marzo-April of 2025, the population with employment in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5 million 518 thousand persons, increasing in 2.2% (117 thousand 300 persons), compared to the same quarter of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
Likewise, it was stated that during the quarter under analysis, the male employed population increased by 3.7% (106 thousand 900) and female employed population increased by 0.4% (10 thousand 300), compared to the same quarter of the year 2024.
The employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 8.2%
By age groups, the employed population increased by 8.2% (164 thousand 100) between those that are 45 years old and over and in the group of 25 to 44 years old increased by 2.4% (64 thousand); meanwhile it decreased by 14.3% (-110 thousand 800) among the young population of 14 to 24 years of age.
The employed population with secondary education level increased by 5.2%
According to education level, the employed population grew by 5.2% (115 thousand 500) between those that studied secondary education level, followed by those that reached non-university superior education level in 3.5% (39 thousand 500) and between those with primary or lower education level in 1.9% (7 thousand 500). Meanwhile, it decreased by 2.8% (-45 thousand 100) in the population with university superior education level.
The population with employment in Construction sector increased by 9.2%
By comparing the quarter under analysis with the same quarter of the last year, the employed population increased in construction by 9.2% (35 thousand 500), followed by services by 3.2% (99 thousand 600) and manufacturing by 0.2% (thousand 300); nevertheless, it decreased in commerce by 0.7% (-8 thousand 800).
The employed population in economic units of 11 to 50 employees grew by 26.7%
The INEI informed that the employed population increased in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees by 26.7% (145 thousand 800) and in companies of 51 and more employees by 0.4% (5 thousand 500); and in companies of 51 and more employees by 0.4% (5 thousand 500); meanwhile that in establishments of 1 to 10 employees decreased by 1.0% (-34 thousand).
Unemployment rate was of 5.9%
During the mobile quarter February-March-April of 2025, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.9%, compared with the same mobile quarter of the last year (7.7%), it decreased in 1.8 percentage points. It is estimated that 346 thousand 700 persons actively sought a job in Lima Metropolitan area.
Population with suitable employment grew by 12.3% in Lima Metropolitan area
During the quarter under study, the population with suitable employment reached 3 million 523 thousand 700 persons, increasing in 12.3% (386 thousand 100), compared to the same period of the last year.
On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 11.9% (-268 thousand 800). Likewise, the underemployed population by time-related underemployment (visible underemployment) reduced by 35.1% (-189 thousand 500) and the underemployed by incomes (invisible employment) reduced by 4.6% (-79 thousand 400).
Average monthly income coming from work increased by 4.8%
The results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN) revealed that the average monthly income coming from work of the main activity in Lima Metropolitan area was of 2,102,4 Soles, a higher figure in 4.8% (96.0 Soles), than the registered in the same quarter of the last year.
Average monthly income increased in all age groups
Among the months of February and April of 2025, the average monthly income coming from work of the main activity increased by 4.3% (91.4 Soles) in the group of 45 years old and over increased by 3.7% (78.7 Soles) among the group between 25 to 44 years old and in the employed under 25 years old in 2.3% (28.9 Soles).
Average monthly income among those employed in the Construction sector grew by 18.9%
During the mobile quarter February-March-April 2025, the average monthly income coming from work among the employed population that performs activities in the construction sector increased by 18.9% (406.2 Soles), followed by commerce sector by 6.5% (101.1 Soles), services sector by 4.3% (91.0 Soles) and manufacturing sector by 1.8% (34.5 Soles).
