This Sunday more than 9 million of mothers commemorate their day in Peru

This Sunday, 9 million 86 thousand 194 women commemorate their Mother’s Day in Peru; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). According to the population projections of as 2025, from the total of mothers, 59.1% are in reproductive age (15 to 49 years of age), 24.0% are older adult (60 years old and older). It is worth to mention that 4.0% are in their 80s.
33 out of 100 mothers are cohabitants
According to National Household Survey (ENAHO) and the civil state of mothers in Peru, as of 2024, 33.4% of mothers are cohabitants, 29.9% are married, 20.4% are separated, 9.7% are widows, 5.3% are single and 1.2% are divorced.
67 out of 100 mothers are part of the economically active population
As of 2024, 67.0% of mothers in working age (15 years old and older) are part of the economically active population (EAP); meanwhile that the 33.0% belongs to the non-economically active population (NON-EAP).
72.4% of mothers of 25 to 44 years old participate in the labour market
According to age groups, in the group of 25 to 44 years old, 72.4% of those that are mothers participate in the labour market; in the group of 45 years old and older, the 62.2%; and in the group under 25 years old, the 55.8%.
49 out of 100 mothers are independent workers
According to occupation category, 48.8% of mothers are independent workers, 41,5% are mothers working in salaried employment (working, labouring women or domestic workers), 9.6% are unpaid family workers and 0.1% have other condition.
71.1% of mothers work in Service and Commerce activities
The INEI informed that according to the activity branch they are working at, 71.1% of mothers work in the following activities: services (44.0%) and commerce (27.1%). Meanwhile, 20.2% works in activities of agriculture, fishing or mining; 8.3% works in manufacturing and 0.4% works in construction.
77.9% of mothers work in small companies
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), according to the size of company in which they work, 77.9% of mothers work in companies of 1 to 10 employees; it means, small companies; 16.3% in big companies of 51 to more employees; and 5.0% in medium companies of 11 to 50 employees.
