Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew 7.04% in March of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report “Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity” stated that, during March of 2025, the mining and hydrocarbons sector grew 7.04%, compared to the same month of the last year. Also, informed that this sector accumulated a growth of 2.40% during the first quarter of the current year.

This positive behavior was explained by the increase of the activity of the metal mining subsector (7.45%), due to the greater volume of copper (4.8%), zinc (17.5%), molybdenum (15.9%), silver (19.6%), lead (17.3%) and gold (0.03%) production; meanwhile, the production of iron (-0.2%) and tin (-3.0%) decreased.
The hydrocarbons subsector increased by 4.52% based in the greater extraction of crude oil (16.3%) and of natural gas (1.6%); meanwhile, the extraction volume of natural gas liquids reduced (-0.5%).


Domestic cement consumption increased 6.44%
During the third month of this year, the domestic cement consumption grew by 6.44%, compared to the same month of 2024, being this growth higher so far this year.
This performance was based in the execution of private works and self-construction. In addition, it was informed that this indicator accumulated an increase of 2.54% during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period of the last year.


Production of Fishing Sector increased by 29.12%
During the month under analysis, the fishing sector grew by 29.12% due to the greater landing of species of maritime origin by 34.94%, intended for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) that went from 800 tons in March of 2024 to 56,526 tons in March of 2025. This result belongs to the south area of the coastline (Ilo and Mollendo).

Likewise, it was registered a greater extraction of species for direct human consumption by 18.68%, intended to frozen (68.8%), preparation of canning (31.7%) and preparation for curing (10.3%). Fishing of continental origin increased by 5.22% before the greater extraction of species for consumption in fresh state (6.2%), frozen state (1.8%) and for preparation of curing (2.0%).


Production of electricity subsector grew by 5.58%
Electricity subsector grew by 5.58% as a result of the greater volume of generation of wind-solar renewable energy by 14.01%, thermoelectric energy by 11.85% and hydroelectric energy by 1.34%.

Among the main companies that increased their production were Renewable Energy of the South, Company ofGeneración Huallaga, Company of Generation Huanza, Chinango, Kallpa Generation, Statkraft Perú, Celepsa, Orygen Perú, Electroperú and Inland Energy.

Nevertheless, it partially counterbalanced this positive performance, the lower generation of the company Termochilca, Fénix Power, Orazul Energy Perú, Egasa, San Gabán, Company of Generation Junín, Engie Energía Perú and Company of Generation Machu Picchu.


Mortgage loans increased by 5.63%
During March of 2025, the mortgage lending totalized S/ 67,718 million, amount that registered an increase of 5.63%, compared with the month of March of 2024.

In addition, showed a positive behavior of credits granted to big, medium, small and microenterprise that totalized S/ 213,545 million, growing by 2.31% compared to the same month of the year 2024. In addition, the consumption credits placed by S/ 72,983 million, growing by 0.06% compared to the same month of the last year.

On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking placed in 6,384 thousand units, growing 1.77%, compared to the same month of 2024.


Total amount imported grew by 15.02%.
During the month under analysis, the total amount imported was of US$ 4,946 million with a growth of 15.02%, compared with the value registered in March of 2024, according to information provided by the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT), with information available as of April 21st of 2025.
The INEI informed that the import of capital goods and construction materials totalized US$ 1,468 million, increasing by 22.19% compared with the same month of the year 2024.
The total amount imported of consumption goods totalized US$ 1,111 million, growing by 19.64%, compared with the value registered in the same month of 2024. As well as, the import of raw materials and intermediate products placed in US$ 2,367 million, changing by 9.20%, compared to the value obtained in March of 2024.
