Consumer prices of Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.32% in April of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during April of 2025, the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.32% compared to the last month. The accumulated variation reached 1.23% and that of the last twelve months (May 2024 – April 2025) was of 1.65%.
In the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy is stated that the monthly result was influenced, mainly, by the increase observed in the consumer divisions of Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.94%), Goods and different services (0.24%), Restaurants and hotels (0.20%), Recreation and culture (0.18%) and Transportation (0.16%). In lower measurement, it increased the prices of Furniture, articles for household and routine household maintenance (0.13%), clothing items and footwear (0.12%), Communications (0.08%), Health (0.02%), Education (0.01%) and Alcoholic Beverages, tobacco and narcotics (0.01%); nevertheless, the prices of Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased (-0.01%).
In the division of Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages increased the prices of fish and shellfish (8.9%) such as Lisa fish (22.3%), horse mackerel (21.6%), sea bass (21.3%), Parrot fish (20.3%), hake (19.0%), mackerel (14.6%), trout (8.8%) and Bonito fish (8.4%); also, coffee, tea and cacao (1.6%) such as ground roasted coffee (2.7%) and instant coffee (1.8%); meat (1.5%) such as eviscerated chicken (3.1%), eviscerated hen (2.8%) and chicken cuts: breast (2.3%), leg (2.1%), chicken (2.1%) and breaded chicken (2.0%). Likewise, it increased the prices of milk, cheese and eggs (1.4%) outstanding chicken eggs (3.7%); other food products (1.3%) such as hot chili grounded pepper (9.6%), fresh yellow grounded chili (7.6%) and grounded garlic (3.4%). It also increased their prices the legumes, potato and other tubers (0.4%) also the vegetables such as leek (16.0%), green peas (14.0%), green onions (13.4%), yuca (6.8%), carrot (4.6%) and colored potato (3.9%).
On the other hand, it decreased the prices of fruits (-0.3%) such as mandarin (-13.7%), orange for juice (-7,9%), sweet granadilla (-4.8%), papaya (-3.8%), avocado (-2.9%) and strawberry (-2.7%); and sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and sugar sweets (-0.3%) such as brown (-1.5%) and white (-0.9%) sugar.
The increase of prices observed in Goods and different services was due to the increase of price in the beauty parlors and establishments of personal care (0.3%) such as aesthetic care of hands and feet (0.4%), female (0.4%) and male (0.2%) haircut; and devices, articles and products for personal care (0.3%) such as gold jewelry (5.2%), shampoo (0.5%), toilet soap (0.4%), sanitary pads (0.4%), conditioners (0.4%) and toothpastes (0.3%).
In Restaurants and hotels increased the prices of food service in restaurants and similar premises (0.2%), due to the increase of the tamales (1.6%), sweet pastries (0.8%), fried pork rinds (0.5%), sandwiches (0.3%), creole and regional plates (0.3%) and menu in restaurants (0.2%); likewise, the service of beverages in restaurants and similar premises (0.2%) due to the increase in the price of blended fruit juice (0.6%) and served beer (0.3%).
In the division Transport it was registered an increase of price in the transportation of passengers by air (4.0%) due to the increase of international air ticket (5.3%) and transportation of passengers by road (0.2%) due to the increase in the interprovincial omnibus ticket (7.9%).
Products with greater variation
During the month under analysis, from the 586 products that are part of the family basket, 298 increased their price, 121 decreased their price and 167 products did not registered variation. Th greater increases were observed in blueberries (37.53%), Lisa fish (22.34%), horse mackerel (21.63%), sea bass (21.35%), Parrot fish (20.29%), hake (19.04%), leek (15.97%) and mackerel (14.57%). Meanwhile, decrease of prices were registered in the following items: mandarin (-13.68%), chili pepper (-9.38%), orange for juice (-7,89%), basil (-7.66%), tomato (-5.70%), sweet granadilla (-4.75%), corn (-4.22%) and pickle (-3.89%).
Products that influenced in the monthly result
The variation of the Consumer Price Index of the month of April was mainly marked, by the greater prices in foods such as eviscerated chicken and its cuts, chicken eggs, fishes such as: horse mackerel, Bonito fish and green peas, that together contributed with 0.157 percentage points to the result of the month. These increases were dimed by the decrease of prices in fruits such as mandarin, papaya and orange juice, as well as tomato and gasohol.
Consumer prices without considering foods and energy increased by 0.14%
During the month of April of the current year, the variation of the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area without considering foods and energy (underlying inflation) increased 0.14%.
Consumer prices at national level increased by 0.30%
During the fourth month of the year, the Consumer Price Index at National Level grew 0.30% compared to the last month; meanwhile, the accumulated variation was of 1.10% and that of the last twelve months (May 2024-April 2025) increased by 1.64%. This result was a product of greater prices registered in the divisions of Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.93%), Goods and Different Services (0.23%), Restaurants and hotels (0.19%), Recreation and culture (0.11%), Clothing Items and Footwear (0.10%), Furniture and household items (0.09%), Communications (0.06%), Education (0.06%), Health (0.03%) and Transportation (0.03%). Meanwhile it was observed lower prices in Accommodation, water, electricity and gas (-0.02%) and Alcoholic Beverages and tobacco (-0.01%).
Variation of prices by cities
During the month of April, 23 out of 26 cities where the Consumer Price Index is calculated registered an increase of prices, outstanding the cities of Piura (0.52%), Tumbes (0.52%), Trujillo (0.46%), Tarapoto (0.43%) and Ayacucho (0.42%). Meanwhile, the cities that registered negative results were Cajamarca (-0.86%), Huancavelica (-0.23%) and Puno (-0.03%).
Wholesale prices at national level increased by 0.19%
In April of 2025, the Wholesale Price Index increased by 0.19% compared to the last month. This behavior was a result of the greater prices registered in national products: fishing (hake, Lisa fish, mackerel, Parrot fish, horse mackerel, Cachema and Bonito fish); agriculture (carrot, pineapple, sweet potato, green peas, apple, yuca, potato, coffee in grain and paddy rice) and livestock (eggs, live chicken, live hen, ovine cattle and beef cattle); nevertheless, it decreased the prices of manufactured products (chicken meat, brown sugar, carne de pollo, canned fish, industrial wheat flour, milled rice, cold-drawn wires, steel profiles, diesel and industrial petroleum, construction rods, petroleum liquefied gas and cement).
Likewise, the prices of imported goods for manufacturing (road tractors for semi-trailer, soy bean flour, harina de soya, phosphate fertilizers, front bulldozing, generators, automobiles, mobile phone, cyanide, lubricating oils, transportation vehicles for transportation an agriculture (hard yellow corn).
Prices of machinery and equipment grew 0.72%
During the month under analysis, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment increased by 0.72% compared to the last month, due to the positive behavior of the domestic market and the exchange rate that affected the prices of imported capital goods, such as machinery and equipment for transportation (vehicles for transportation of goods, road tractor for semi-trailer, rings and oil filters); agriculture machinery (tractors); machinery for industry (dumper trucks, excavators and desktop computers) and other machinery (electromedical devices and various electricity meters). Likewise, increases in capital goods of domestic origin were observed, outstanding the machinery and equipment for industry (transformers, electric boards and welding machines); transportation (car bodies) and other machinery (fishing nets); meanwhile, agriculture machinery did not registered variation.
Prices of construction materials increased 0.12%
During April of 2025, the Price Index of Construction Materials in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 0.12% compared to the last month, influenced by the increase of six of the ten groups that are part of the indicator, it outstood the brick group (for roof, king kong, Pandereta brick and Pastelero brick), tiles and mosaics (floor coverings), binders (Portland Type I cement) and in concrete structures (flat fiber sheets). On the other hand, it decreased the group of tubes and plastic accessories (PVC tubes and accessories for water sewerage and electricity), metallic (construction rods, wire rod, zinc zinced corrugated sheets and nails), woods (Capirona and Tornillo wood) and aggregates (stone and sand).
