17 million 322 thousand 900 persons will commemorate the International Workers' Day

On the occasion of the International Workers' Day to be commemorated the next May 1st, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) stated that based on the results of the Permanent Survey of the National Employment (EPEN), in 2024, the employed population of the country reached 17 million 322 thousand 900 persons, a higher figure by 0.8% compared to the figure registered in 2023.
In addition, it was reported that the employed population of the urban area totalized 14 million 19 thousand 200 (80.9%) and in the rural area 3 million 303 thousand 700 persons (19.1%).
According to sex, from the total of the employed population of the country, 55.6% (9 million 636 thousand 900) are men and 44.4% (7 million 686 thousand) women.
47.5% of the employed population are between 25 and 44 years old.
During 2024, the employed population was mainly made up by persons of 25 to 44 years old and represented 47.5% (8 million 230 thousand 600). Followed by the group of 45 years old and older with 38.3% (6 million 632 thousand) and the population under 25 years old with 14.2% (2 million 460 thousand 400).
42.2% of the population with employment has secondary education level
The results of the EPEN results revealed that 19.8% (3 million 424 thousand 800) of the employed population reached the primary education level (including early education or no-education level), 42.2% (7 million 307 thousand 600) has secondary education level, 20.7% (3 million 589 thousand 500) has university superior education level, and 17.3% (3 million 1 thousand) with non-university superior education level.
72.5% of the employed population worked in establishments of 1 to 10 employees
The INEI informed that 72.5% (12 million 562 thousand 300) of the employed population worked in establishments of 1 to 10 employees. Followed by 20.2% (3 million 493 thousand) that worked in companies of 51 and more employees and 7.3% (1 million 267 thousand 600) that worked in companies of 11 to 50 employees.
Services sector offered employment to the 41.9% of the employed population of the country
At national level, services activity offered employment to the 41.9% (7 million 250 thousand 400) of the employed population. Likewise, 23.8% (4 million 116 thousand 900) of the population works in agriculture, fishing and mining activity, 19.0% (3 million 292 thousand 200) in commerce, 8.7% (1 million 508 thousand 900) in manufacturing and 6.7% of (1 million 154 thousand 600) the population works in construction.
49.5% of the employed population worked in a dependent employment
During the year 2024 and according to occupation category, 49.5% (8 million 570 thousand 800) is dependent employee, followed by the 41.5% (7 million 182 thousand 600) of the population that worked independently and 9.0% (1 million 569 thousand 500) worked as an unpaid family worker (TFNR).
Average monthly income coming from work was of S/ 1,765.90
Comparing the average monthly income coming from work between the years 2023 and 2024, registered a growth of 5.5%, by going from 1,674.40 Soles to 1,765.90 Soles.
By sex, the average monthly income of women increased by 6.3%, by going from 1,405.10 Soles in 2023 to 1, 494.00 Soles in 2024, meanwhile that during the same period under analysis the average monthly income of men increased by 4.9% reaching 1,965.70 Soles in 2024.
