Five departments contributed with the 65.2% of the total potato production during February of 2025

During February of 2025, the potato production increased in the departments of Huánuco (55.5%), Ayacucho (51.0%), Ancash (22.1%), Huancavelica (17.1%) and Junín (5.6%), compared to the same month of the last year, concentrating the 65.2% of the national total, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) based on the Technical Report Peru: Economic Outlook by Department, stated that also grew in Piura (8.9%).
During the month under analysis, potato production decreased in Apurímac (-42.9%), Cusco (-24.5%), Arequipa (-13.5%), La Libertad (-8.6%) and Cajamarca (-3.7%). Meanwhile, the production of this tuber totalized 390 thousand 178 tons, 7.7% higher than the registered in February of the last year (362 thousand 128 tons). This positive performance was driven by the greater yields due to the good water and thermal conditions that benefited the vegetative and tuberisation development of the planting of this crop, to meet the demand of the domestic market.


Piura, Lambayeque and Ancash contributed with the 86.6% of the mango production of the country
During February of the current year, the departments of the north such as Piura (73.7%) and Lambayeque (14.5%), as well as Ancash (175.0%); contributed with the 86.6% of the national total. Likewise, it increased in Ica (34.3%), Lima (24.3%), La Libertad (17.3%) and Cajamarca (3.6%), among others. On the other hand, it contracted in Apurímac (-76.7%), Arequipa (-41.2%), Amazonas (-15.4%), Ayacucho (-3.3%) and Loreto (-0.6%).

The mango production reached 88 thousand 654 tons across the country, result that meant a growth of 56.7%, compared to the same month of 2024. This fruit intended for the foreign market and agro-industry, was favoured by the suitable thermal conditions.


Departments of Arequipa, Lima and La Libertad led the poultry production
During February of 2025, poultry production mainly increased in the producing centers of Arequipa (5.1%), Lima (4.1%) and La Libertad (3.4%), compared to the same month of 2024, registering s participation of 83.5% of the poultry production of the country.

In addition, it increased in Tumbes (5.1%), San Martín (5.0%), Ancash (4.2%), Ica (2.3%), Moquegua (2.1%), Huancavelica (1.3%), Lambayeque (0.6%) and Cajamarca (0.5%). Nevertheless, it reduced in Piura (-8.5%), Pasco (-4.3%), Cusco (-3.4%), Madre de Dios (-2.9%), Tacna (-2.7%) and Junín (-2.6%), among others.
At national level, the poultry production registered a growth of 3.4% compared to the same month of the last year, explained by the greater placement of BB chicken in the meat production, laying hens and turkeys for fattening.


Copper production increased in eight departments
During February of 2025, copper production compared to the same last year, outstood in the departments of Apurímac (57.6%), Junín (44.8%), Lima (20.6%), Ica (19.7%), Moquegua (5.3%) and Ancash (1.1%), that together represented the 68.4% of the national total; it also increased in Huancavelica (13.8%) and Cajamarca (10.5%). Nevertheless, it decreased in Cusco (-52.7%), Pasco (-24.0%), Arequipa (-15,6%), Ayacucho (-11.7%), Huánuco (-8.1%) and Tacna (-5.5%).

At national level, copper production slightly increased by 0.5% compared to the same month of 2024, due to the greater extraction performed in the following companies, Minera Las Bambas, Minera Chinalco Perú, Anglo American Quellaveco, Marcobre, Sociedad Minera Corona, Shouxin Perú, Nexa Resources Perú and Antamina. This behavior was tempered by the reduction of the extraction levels registered in the following companies, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde, Compañía Minera Antapaccay, Hudbay Perú, Sociedad Minera El Brocal and Southern Peru Copper Corporation.
The INEI also informed that the extraction of silver, molybdenum and tin grew; on the other hand, the extraction of gold, zinc and iron decreased.


Electricity production was affected in 17 departments
During the second month of 2025, the electricity production reduced compared to February of 2024, in seventeen (17) departments, such as Pasco (-16.0%), Cajamarca (-13.1%), Ica (-12.4%), Junín (-10.0%), Lima (-2.8%) and Huancavelica (-1.5%), mainly; that represented the 74.8% of the national total.
Nevertheless, it increased in Arequipa (68.3%), Tacna (27.1%), Huánuco (16.9%), Ucayali (14.5%), Ancash (11.0%), Cusco (6.8%) and Piura (5.0%).

Across the country, the electric energy production contracted by 1.3%, compared to the same month of the last year, before the lower electric power generation in the following power stations, Santa Rosa I and II, Ventanilla, Chilca I and II, Independencia, Kallpa and Santo Domingo de los Olleros, among others. The same trend registered the production of non-conventional renewable energy due to the lower generation of wind energy; meanwhile the generation of solar energy increased.
This result was counterbalanced by the increase of the generation of hydroelectric energy in the following power stations: Chaglla, Charcani V, Quitaracsa, Santa Teresa, Poechos II, El Carmen and Aricota I, among the main ones.


Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes grew in 19 departments
During February of 2025, the revenues collected by taxes increased in 19 departments, compared to the same month of the last year, among those outstood the following departments: Ucayali (101.1%), Arequipa (24.5%), Ica (18.6%), Lima (11.2%) and La Libertad (5.1%); which concentrated the 93.7% of the total collected. On the other hand, it decreased in Piura (-30.2%), Loreto (-2.8%), Tumbes (-2.8%), Huancavelica (-1.7%) and Pasco (-1.4%).
The revenues collected by internal taxes, in February of 2025, amounted 11 thousand 78 million 881 thousand Soles, a higher figure in 11.6% to the observed in the same month of the last year. This favorable performance, was based in the greater tax collection from the production and consumption in the areas of value added taxes and selective excise tax; as well as the special mining tax.
