During the month of February of 2025, the traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased by 3.0%

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that during the month of February of 2025, the National Rate of Vehicular flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country registered an increase of 3.0% compared to the same month of 2024.
In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths is stated that the monthly result was influenced by the greater traffic flow of light-duty units (3.1%) and heavy-duty units (2.9%).


Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles grew by 3.1%
During the second month of the year, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country registered an increase of 3.1% compared to February of 2024, driven by the movement of national and foreign tourists within the interior of the country, in order to participate of the religious festivities, gastronomic fairs, carnivals and different events performed in different regions, which boosted the touristic activities, commercial, accommodations and restaurants.

The tollbooths with greater traffic Flow were: to the north in San Martín (Moyobamba 9.2%, Aguas Claras 2.1% and Pongo 0.8%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 4.7%, Chulucanas 1.9% and Paita 1.6%), La Libertad (Chicama 3.3% and Pacanguilla 0.1%) and Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 0.3%). In the center, it increased in Junín (Casaracra 7.1%) and Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 2,3%); an in the south, in Moquegua (Ilo 6.4%) and Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 4.5%).

Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased by 2.9%
In February of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country increased by 2.9% compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the significant demand of these vehicles for agriculture activities before the greater quantity of area sown and good weather conditions in some regions. In addition, due to the positive behavior of the fishing sector due to the increase of the extraction of species of maritime origin related to the 2025 first fishing season.

Likewise, it also influenced the growth of the manufacturing activity, by the side of the primary manufacturing subsector in the branch of processing and preserving of fish , crustaceans and molluscs; in construction reflected in the greater domestic cement consumption favoured by the works executed by the private investment and the physical progress of regional, national and local government; and the wholesale commerce associated to the sale of heavy-duty machinery, drilling equipment, bulldozers and pumps.

The tollbooths that registered the highest traffic Flow were: to the north, in La Libertad (Pacanguilla 17.0%, Chicama 6.2% and Virú 4.3%), Piura (Chulucanas 7.9% and Piura Sullana 2.8%), Áncash (Huarmey 7.6%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 3.9%) and Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 3.8%).

Likewise, in the center, the traffic flow of vehicles increased in Lima (Fortaleza 8.4% and El Paraíso 5.6%); and in the south, in Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 8.8%), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 7.9% and Marcona 2.3%) and Moquegua (Ilo 4.0% and Pampa Cuellar 2.4%).


Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 3.3%
In February of the current year, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 3.3%, compared to the same month of 2024, explained by the greater traffic flow of vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and 4 axle heavy-duty trucks for loading (2.2%), 5 axle (4.6%), 6 axle (5.4%) and 7 axle (21.9%); nevertheless, 3 axle vehicles registered a negative result (-0.2%).
