National Production increased 2.68% in February of 2025

During the second month of this year, the national production grew by 2.68%, compared to February of 2024, explained by the positive performance of most of the sectors, among other services; such as commerce; construction; transportation, storage and courier; services of government; agro-livestock; manufacturing; services provided to companies; fishing; financing; as well as accommodation and restaurants.
Productive activity of the country increased 3.38%, during the first two months of the year compared to the same period of 2024 and during the last 12 months (March 2024-February 2025) in 3.50%, compared to the period of March 2023-February 2024.

It must be noted that the result of the month under analysis, was performed with one day less of activity, compared with February 2024, that registered 29 days for being a leap year.


The production of the Agro-livestock increased by 4.35%
During the second month of this year, the agro-livestock production grew 4.35% compared to February of 2024, due to the greater production of the agriculture subsector (5.49%), before the greater volumes of the production of grape (97.0%), mango (56.7%), paprika (39.5%), tomato (33.5%), mandarin (18.1%), oil palm (13.3%) and potato (7.7%); which was associated to the greater area sown and favorable climatic conditions, such as frequent rains in the coast and highlands; meanwhile in the rainforest were registered temperatures with values above the normal.

On the other hand, the livestock subsector registered a variation of 2.77% as a result of the greater volumes of production of fresh milk (4.1%), poultry (3.4%), swine (3.2%) and beef cattle (1.3%).


Fishing sector increased by 24.64%
During the month under analysis, the fishing sector grew 24.64% compared to February of 2024, as a result of the greater landing of species of maritime origin (28.88%). Therefore, it was registered a greater capture in species intended to direct human consumption (15.16%), in its four destinations: preparation of canning (118.0%), frozen (22.1%), preparation of curing (9.1%) and consumption in fresh state (0.9%).

The same trend was registered in the extraction of species for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) that went from 318 tons in February of 2024 to 53,214 tons in February of 2025. This landing corresponded to the ports of Ilo, Mollendo, Pacocha (Moquegua) and Matarani (Arequipa).
On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin increased by 6.15% due to the greater extraction of species for consumption in fresh (6.0%), frozen (6.9%) and cured (2.0%) state.


The production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased by 1.36%
The INEI informed that, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector reduced by 1.36%, in February of 2025, compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior was explained by the lower activity of the metal-mining subsector by -1.23%, due to the lower production of gold (-15.7%), zinc (-2.1%), iron (-5.2%) and lead (-3.4%); meanwhile, it increased the production of silver (9.0%), copper (0.5%), molybdenum (1.5%) and tin (0.8%).

The hydrocarbons subsector reduced by 2.24% associated to the lower volume of exploitation of natural gas liquids (-6.6%) and of natural gas (-4.5%); attenuated by the greater extraction of crude oil (7.8%).


Manufacturing sector showed an increase of 1.94%
During the month under study, the production of the manufacturing sector increased by 1.94%, compared to February of 2024. This behavior was explained by the favorable result of the primary manufacturing subsector (15.07%). Nevertheless, it was affected by the unfavorable behavior of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (-1.75%).

The positive evolution of the primary manufacturing subsector was based in the greater activity in the branch of processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs (162.67%), manufacture of refined petroleum products (19.34%) and manufacturing and preserving of meat (2.46%). Nevertheless, the sugar processing (-6.24%) and the production of primary products of precious metals and other non-ferrous metals (-0.88%) reduced.
The contraction of the non-primary manufacturing subsector was explained by the lower production of the industry of consumption goods (-1.65%) and intermediate goods (-0.35%); meanwhile the activity of capital goods increased (10.58%).


The production of electricity, gas and water sector reduced by 1.64%
During the month under study, the electricity, gas and water sector decreased by 1.64% compared to February of 2024; as a result of the lower generation of electric energy (-1.30%) and production of potable water (-4.43%); dimmed by the growth of the gas distribution by 0.33%.
The decrease of electricity subsector was observed in the area of non-conventional renewable origin energies (wind-solar) in -10.50% and of thermoelectric origin energy by -3.60%; meanwhile, the generation of hydraulic energy increased by 0.90%. In the water subsector, the companies with lower production were Sedapar (-9.8%), Sedapal (-6.9%), Eps Grau (-6.9%), Sedalib (-4.3%) and
Epsel (-2.4%).
The dynamism in the distribution of gas was explained by the greater demand of companies (13.2%) and of the establishments of natural gas refueling stations (5.8%); nevertheless, there was a less requirement of the electric generators (-2.7%).


Construction sector grew by 5.91%
The INEI informed that in February of 2025, the construction sector increased by 5.91%, compared with February of 2024. In this performance influenced the physical progress of public works (10.36%) and the domestic cement consumption (4.64%).

The greater physical progress of public works was observed in the three government areas in road infrastructure; basic services works; risk prevention works and in construction of non-residential buildings. On the other hand, the increase of domestic cement consumption was driven by the works of private sector such as projects of multi-family dwellings and condos, works in the electric, mining and telecommunications sector, among others.


The production of Commerce sector grew 3.09%
During February of 2025, the commerce sector increased by 3.09%, compared to the same month of the last year; due to the favorable evolution of its three components. Therefore, the sale in the wholesale channel increased by 2.94%, based in the greater commercialization of agro-livestock products (blueberries, coffee, grape) and living animals (chicken); heavy machinery and equipment (agro-livestock, mining, construction); livestock, mining, construction); metals and metal ores minerals (copper and steel); household goods (pharmaceutical and personal care products, books and educational textbooks); equipment of electronic and personal security; medical devices; and nutritional products for human health.

The retail sale grew 2.87% due to the greater commercialization in specialized warehouses, favoured by the greater investment in marketing and advertising; in supermarkets, hypermarkets and minimarkets; in establishments of pharmaceutical and medical products, cosmetics and toiletries. In addition, the automotive commerce increased 5.18% due to the greater demand of vehicles (light and heavy) and its maintenance and repair, due to campaigns. In addition, the sale, the maintenance and the repair of motorcycle and its parts, pieces and accessories grew by advertising actions and events.


Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased by 5.66%
During the month under analysis, the transportation, storage and courier sector grew by 5.66%, compared to the month of February of 2024. This performance was explained by the positive result of the transportation (4.03%), as well as storage and courier (9.65%) subsectors.

The increase of the transportation subsector was based in the greater requirement of transportation by road and pipping (2.15%), that showed a greater traffic of passengers (2.5%) and cargo (1.9%) in roads; as well as by rail (9.8%) given the growing mobilization of passengers and cargo; meanwhile, the transportation by pipping of natural gas and of liquids of natural gas (-3.4%) decreased.
Transportation by air grew by 7.66%, due to the greater movement of passengers and cargo, domestic and international. Likewise, the transportation by waterways increased 9.02% before the greater transportation of passengers and cargo by waterways.
The growth of storage and courier subsector was explained by the greater services of storage and support activities to transportation (10.10%); as well as the postal and courier services (2.32%).


Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased by 0.64%
During the month under study, the accommodation and restaurants sector increased by 0.64%, compared to the same month of 2024. Added to this result the positive evolution of the restaurants subsector (0.64%) and accommodation subsector (0.35%).
The variation of restaurants subsector was explained by the evolution of the following businesses such as restaurants (0.03%) and services of food for transportation companies and concessionaires (3.91%); on the other hand, the services of beverages and the supply of food by contract (catering) (-3.21%).

In the restaurants group, the touristic restaurants, sandwich restaurants, meat and grills restaurants, general restaurants, confectioneries, ceviche Rias (seafood restaurants), among others; registered an increasing behavior; favoured by the implementation of discounts by membership in delivery applications, presentation of live music and summer combos. Contributed to the result of the activity, the greater consumption due to Friendship Day and the performance of gastronomic fairs.


Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector decreased by 0.35%
During February of 2025, the telecommunications and other services of information sector decreased by 0.35%, compared to the same month of the year 2024. This was due to the contractive behavior of the telecommunications subsector (-0.46%); meanwhile, the subsector of other services of information grew (0.66%).

In the negative behavior of the telecommunications subsector affected the drop of the telephony services (-2.3%) and services of data transmission (-0.9%); situation that was attenuated by the increase of Internet services and TV by subscription (2.2%). The increase of other services of information subsector was based in the greater activity of edition (5.8%) and the activities of production and film showing and TV programs (5.1%). Nevertheless, the activities of computer programming (-2.3%) and the activities of television and radio programming (-3.3%).


Financial and Insurance sector increased by 0.39%
During February of 2025, the financial and insurance sector increased 0.39%, compared with February of 2024. This was explained by the increase of greater credits (0.93%) and deposits (8.71%) of the multiple banking.

According to area, it grew the mortgage loans (3.7%) and business credits (1.2%); meanwhile, it decreased the consumption credits (-2.4%). By destination area there where channeled greater amounts to commerce; transportation; storage and communications; financial intermediation; electricity, gas and water; agriculture; livestock, hunting and silviculture; public and defense administration; and social and health services.

So also, the increase of the deposits of multiple banking was influenced by the positive performance of the saving deposits (11.4%), demand deposits (11.3%) and fixed-term deposits (4.8%).


Sector Services Provided to Companies grew by 3.84%
Sector services provided to companies increased by 3.84%, compared to the same month of the last year. This result was based in the positive behavior of travel agencies and tour operators (11.1%), activities of administrative and support services to companies (4.2%), advertising and market research (3.4%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (3.2%).


Government Services increased by 4.42%
During the month under analysis, the government services grew 4.42%, compared to February of 2024. This mentioned result was associated to the greater activities performed by the institutions of public administration (4.36%), defense (5.15%) and others (4.70%).


Other Services increased by 3.75%
The sector other services registered a variation of 3.75%, based in the positive result of health service (5.8%), personal services (4.4%), real estate activities (3.2%) and service of education (2.4%).

In personal Services increased the activities of gambling and betting services; repair of computers, laundries; cleaning services, leisure activities, activities of professional and sport associations, among others.
