INEI received first batches of the 40 thousand tablets that will be used in 2025 National Censuses

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) delivered the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the first batches of the 40 thousand tablets that will be used to collect data during the performance of 2025 National Censuses: XIII of Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities.

Following a process of international selection led by the UNFPA, the INEI placed at the forefront and lead the digital transformation that allows to improve the agility, safety and the use of data during the development of the censuses.

The Chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán stated that in the 2017 Censuses were used printed forms, for this reason the institution has made a significant step forward by setting aside the paper to use electronic devices. “Although the INEI uses mobile devices to collect data from the surveys, is the first time that it will be done for the Population National Censuses, collecting data from all the population that lives in the national territory and will allow to shorten the processing time and improve the quality of the information, given that the electronic form presents basic consistencies, besides of georeferenced the household from where the data is collected”, he stated. In addition, he also outstood the UNFPA support and the accompaniment during the whole process, which allowed a process of transparent international selection process, resulting in a considerable saving.

For its part, Hugo González, UNFPA representative in Peru, emphasized that the censuses in Peru are going through a technological migration. “Is the change from a census using paper to a technological census and we are proud of provide a necessary support for this end”, he declared.

In her reply, Rossana Dudziak, United Nations Resident Coordinator, in Peru, expressed her satisfaction by the achievement of the support of the UNFPA and the United Nations in this great change in the statistical activities.
