Domestic cement consumption grew 4.64% in February of 2025 driven by the progress of private and self-construction works

During February of 2025, the domestic cement consumption increased by 4.64%, compared with the same month of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report “Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity”.

This positive performance was attributed to the dynamism of private and self-construction works, and added a progress of 0.63% during the two first months of this year.
Production of fishing sector increased by 24.64%
During the month under study, the fishing sector grew 24.64%, compared to February of 2024, as a result of the greater landings of species of maritime origin (28.88%), before the greater capture of species for direct human consumption (15.16%), in its four destinations: for preparation of canning (118.0%), frozen (22.1%), preparation of curing (9.1%) and for consumption in fresh state (0.9%).

Likewise, the extraction for indirect human consumption increased (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), by increasing from 318 tons in February 2024 to 53,214 tons in February of 2025, that corresponded to the landing registered in the ports of Mollendo and Ilo.

The fishing of continental origin increased by 6.15% before the greater extraction of species for consumption in fresh state (6.0%) and frozen (6.9%).


Production of mining and hydrocarbons sector decreased by 1.36%
During the second month of 2025, the mining and hydrocarbons sector reduced by 1.36%, compared to the same month of the last year, due to the lower activity of the metal-mining subsector (-1.23%), showing a lower volume of production of gold (-15.7%), zinc (-2.1%), iron (-5.2%) and lead (-3.4%); meanwhile the production of avocado (9.0%), copper (0.5%), molybdenum (1.5%) and tin (0,8%) grew.

The production of the hydrocarbons subsector reduced by 2.24%, compared to February of 2024, due to the lower volume of exploitation of liquids of natural gas (-6.6%) and of natural gas (-4.5%); nevertheless, the extraction of crude oil increased (7.8%).


Electricity generation decreased by 0.89%
During the month under analysis, the electricity generation reduced by 0.89%, compared to February of 2024, as a result of the decrease in the generation of renewable energies (Eolic-solar) by -10.51% and energy of thermoelectric origin by -2.57%; nevertheless, the energy generation of hydroelectric origin grew by 1.00%.

Among the main companies that reduced its production were: Chinango, Orygen Perú, Engie, Statkraft Perú, Empresa de Generación Junín, Gepsa, Orazul Energy Perú, Celepsa, Egemsa, Termochilca, Kallpa Generación and San Gabán; among those companies that grew were: Fenix Power, Egasa, Inland, Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Empresa de Generación Huanza and Electroperú, mainly.


Government investment increased by 15.76%
During February of 2025, the General Government Investment Expenditure (S/ 3,730 million) grew by 15.76%, compared to February 2024, influenced by the progress of public works in the three levels of government; as well as the acquisition of machinery and equipment make by the national and regional government.

In lower proportion grew the Consumption Expenditure of the General Government that in nominal terms, totalized S/ 9,871 million and increased by 2.56%, compared to the same month of 2024.


Granting of mortgage loans keeps a growing trend
During February of 2025, mortgage loans totalized S/ 67,315 million increasing by 5.27% compared to February of 2024.
In addition, the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises corporations, totalized S/ 213,747 million, growing in 2.72% compared to the same month of 2024. On the other hand, consumption credits decreased by registering S/ 72,653 million and registering a reduction of 0.92%.
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking was 6,350 thousand units, a higher figure in 0.88 %, compared to the same month of 2024.


Total amount imported grew by 9.53%
During February of 2025, the total amount imported placed in US$ 4,427 million, higher in 9.53% compared to the value registered in February of 2024, according to information available as of March 23 of the current year.

The greater dynamism was registered in the acquisition of consumption of goods, that totalized US$ 1,004 million, increasing by 20.00 %, compared to the value registered in the same month of 2024.
During February of 2025, the import of capital goods and construction materials totalized US$ 1,237 million, increasing by 9.33%; followed by the purchase of raw materials and intermediate products that totalized US$ 2,186 million, a higher figure in 5.56%, compared to the registered in February of 2024.
