58.4% of the households of the country has access to the Internet

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the fourth quarter of the year 2024, 58.4 % of the households of the country has Internet service, figure that meant an increase of 2.4 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year.


In the technical report Statistics of Information and Communication Technologies in the Households, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the fourth quarter of 2024 is informed that this service grew in 4.0 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2023, by going from 75.4 % to 79.4 % in the households of Lima Metropolitan area in the rural area grew in 1.3 percentage points, by going from 20.4 % to 21.7 % and in the rest urban area grew in 0.9 percentage point, by going from 58.8 % to 59.7 %.


Internet usage reached 80.1 % of the population of 6 years old and older
During the quarter under analysis, 80.1% of the population of 6 years old and older of the country use the Internet, a higher figure in de la population of 6 years old and older of the country use the Internet, a higher figure in 1.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (78.8 %).
The greater percentage growth in the use of the Internet was registered in the population of the rural area by going from 51.8 % to 56.7 % (4.9 percentage points), followed by the rest urban area by going from 81.9 % to 83.5 % (1.6 percentage points). Meanwhile, in Lima Metropolitan area decreased by going from 89.8 % to 88.2 % (1.6 percentage points).


Largest Internet users are between 19 and 24 years old
By age groups, 97.0 % of the population of 19 to 24 years of age led the use of the Internet. Followed by the 92.0 % of the population of 25 to 40 years of age and 90.2 % of the population of 12 to 18 years of age. Among the children of 6 to 11 years of age, it represented the 62.9%; as well as the population of 60 years old and older with 48.6%.
It is worth to mention that during the fourth quarter of 2024 and compared to the same period of 2023, the greater increases in the use of the Internet were registered among the population of 60 years old and older in 3.7 percentage points, in the group of 41 to 59 years of age in 3.2 percentage points, in the group of 19 to 24 years of age in 1.4 percentage points and in the population of 25 to 40 years of age in 0.8 percentage point.


91.5% of the population of 6 years old and older accesses the Internet daily
During the fourth quarter of 2024, the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) revealed that the 91.5% of the population of 6 years old and older used the Internet daily, and compared to the same quarter of 2023 increased in 0.6 percentage point. Meanwhile it decreased in 0.6 percentage point in those that use the Internet once a week and did not show variation in those that use this service once a month or every two months or more.
Cellphone tenancy in households reached 95.1 %
From October to December of the year 2024, in the 95.1 % of the households of the country there is at least one member with cellphone. The greater coverage of households with cellphone was registered in Lima Metropolitan area (97.0 %), followed by the rest urban area (96.8 %) and by the households of the rural area (88.0 %).


Access to the Internet through cellphone reached 89.8 % of the population of the country
The INEI informed that, according to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the fourth quarter of 2024, 89.8 % of the population of 6 years of age and older of the country that used the Internet do it through a cellphone (being cellphone with or with no data plan).
By residence area, 91.2 % of the user population living in Lima Metropolitan area accessed to the Internet through cellphone, 89.2 % of the rural and 89.0 % of the rest urban area.


29.4 % of the households of the country accessed to cable television
During the last quarter of the year 2024, 29.4 % of the households of the country has cable television or pay television. By residence area, 42.0 % of the households of Lima Metropolitan area has this service, as well as the 28.7 % of the rest urban area and 10.8 % of the rural area.
