More than 90.0 % of the population of the country have some health insurance

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report: Living Conditions in Peru, informed that according to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), during the fourth quarter of 2024, 91.4 % of the country’s population have some health insurance and compared with the same period of 2023 increased in 2.8 percentage points.

By place of residence, the population with health insurance represented in urban area 90.6% and in the rural area 94.9%; increasing in 3.0 and 2.0 percentage points, respectively, compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.

By type of health insurance, 64.5 % of the population has a Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), 22.6 % Social Health Insurance Seguro (EsSalud) and 4.4 % has other type of health insurance. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, these proportions increased 3.2 percentage points in those that have SIS and 0.3 percentage point for those that have EsSalud insurance.

46.2% of the population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the fourth quarter of 2024, 46.2 % of the population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment. Therefore, 21.5 % sought medical attention in a pharmacy or apothecary, 13.9 % sought medical attention in establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), 4.8 % went to establishments of the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) and 4.7 % went to a private practice.
By residence area, in urban area, the place or establishments of greater consultation was the pharmacy or apothecary with 23.1 %, followed by establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), 11.2 %. In the rural area, 25.5 % sought medical attention in establishments of MINSA and 14.9% in pharmacy and apothecary.

99 out of 100 underage of 18 years old have DNI
Related to the ownership of the National Identity Card (DNI), 99 out of 100 persons under 18 years old have DNI. In the urban area represented the 99.1 % and in the rural area 98.7 %. By age groups, the population of 0 to 5 years old with DNI reached 98.0 %, the population of 6 to 10 years old reached 99.0 % and in the group of 11 to 17 years old reached 99.6 %.


It increases households that use gas for the preparation of their food
During the fourth quarter of 2024, 89.6 % of households cook their food with gas, higher in 1.0 percentage point than the registered in the same quarter of the last year. According to residence, 94.8 % of the urban households use gas to cook their food and 69.0 % in the rural area.

It increases the population of 18 years old and older that has some account in the financial system
According to the results of the fourth quarter of 2024, 58.6 % of the population of 18 years old and older has some account in the financial system (savings account or remuneration account, fixed-term account or current account). By place of residence, this percentage reached 62.4 % in the urban area and 39.9 % in the rural area.
Compared to the same quarter of 2023, the population 18 years old and older that has account in the financial system increased in 1.5 percentage point at national level, 2.5 percentage points in the rural area and 1.1. percentage point in the urban area.

96.4 % of the population has access to electric energy by public network
During the fourth quarter of 2024, 96.4 % of the country’s population has access to electric energy by public network. According to place of residence, in the urban area reached 98.8 % and in the rural area reached 86.0 %.
