2025 National Censuses will be the new radiography of Peru

In the interview with the Program Mañana al Día from Chanel N, the Chief of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, stated that the 2025 National Census will be the new radiography of Peru because it will show us the reality of the country. He also expressed that it will perform in a period of three months and the registration process will be in charge of 40 thousand census officials who will storage the information in electronic devices (tablets).

He also assured that the census form will include the question of ethnic self- identification like that of the year 2017 and that will be submitted to the Multisectoral Commission for its approval. He brought forward that this week the commission will be installed in an official manner in order to initiate the previous works to the execution of the National Censuses.

In that context, he expressed that an experimental census will be performed to test in field the procedures and time of census registration. Morán Flores emphasize that the 2025 National Censuses will not be politicized and the results will serve as tool for the implementation of public policies to the benefit of the country.

The Chief of the INEI announced that those persons that cannot get a census registration when INEI’s personnel knock the door, they can access to the electronic form that will be hosted on the website of the institution in order to self-registered (previous agreement). He also declared that in order to access the form, the census official will leave a note of visit with the Housing Unique Code that the persons must log on to the system in order to initiate the process.

He also stated that in order to safeguard the INEI’s personal security it will have the support of the National Police of Peru. In this context, he expressed that they received the support of the Serenazgo (citizen security) equipment of the districts during the preparatory activities within the framework of 2025 censuses.

Morán Flores emphasized that the census officials should not enter the households and that all the filling process of the survey will be through a tablet and at the door of the residence. “This way we safeguard the security of census officials and of citizens”, stated.

On another occasion, the Chief of the INEI asserted that the INEI will continue with the measure of the monetary poverty and the measure of the multidimensional poverty will be an indicator of support for public policies.
