50.2% of companies created by natural persons in the fourth quarter of 2024 are led by women

During the fourth quarter of 2024, in the country were created 77 thousand 736 companies at national level, from this total, 46 thousand 552 were registered as legal persons (59.9%), 13 thousand 409 were registered as limited companies (17.2%), 10 thousand 456 as Individual Company of Limited Responsibility (13.5%), among the main ones. These figures are part of the Bulletin of Business Demography of the fourth quarter of 2024, prepared with the information from the INEI’s Central Company and Establishment Directory, that registers information of the entries and exits of companies registered in the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT).

Regarding the companies discharged registered as legal persons during the fourth quarter, 50.2% were conducted by women and 49.8% were conducted by men; showing a greater insertion of women as formal independent.

According to economic activity, during the fourth quarter of the year 2024, women had a greater participation in the management of companies registered as legal persons in the activities of Beauty parlors (72.0%), Activities of foods and beverages (63.8%), Activities of medical attention of the human health (62.2%), Retail trade (59.5%), Wholesale trade (56.0%), Activities of accommodation (54.3%) and Real estate activities (50.2%).

From the total of companies registered in Commerce, the activities that have much higher female representation are the activities of Wholesale trade in return for a remuneration or for contract (73.4%), Retail sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and toiletries in specialized stores (72.6%), Retail sale of clothing items, footwear, leather articles in specialized stores (64.8%) and the Retail sale in non-specialized commerce with predominance of the sale of foods, beverage or tobacco (63.8%).

From the total of legal persons that create or reactivate manufacturing businesses during the fourth quarter of 2024, the activities that have greater female participation are the Manufacture of clothing items (59.6%) and Preparation of food products (55.1%).

There were 12 departments where the most businesses discharged were registered as legal persons under the direction of women, these were: Tacna (57.2%), Tumbes (56.7%), Arequipa (55.1%), Cusco (53.9%), Junín and Ica (53.6% each one), Moquegua (53.1%), Piura (51.8%), Ancash (51.6%), Lambayeque (51.3%), Ayacucho (50.8%) and San Martín (50.6%).

In Lima Metropolitan area, from the legal persons that created businesses, 48.7% are women-led. Nevertheless, there were districts where women exceed 50% of the creation or reactivation of companies, such as Punta Hermosa (70.4%), Santa Rosa (64.5%), Cieneguilla (57.4%), La Punta (57.1%), Santa María del Mar (57.1%), San Miguel and San Bartolo (56.2%), among the main ones.
