95.1% of the population under 18 years old accessed to a health insurance

During the quarter of October-November-December of 2024, 95.1% of population under 18 years old had access to some health insurance (public or private), a higher figure in 2.2 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (92.9%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of the Childhood and Adolescence, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).

The greatest average percentage growth was registered in the access in just to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) by going from 69.4% to 72.9%. Nevertheless, it decreased in the case of EsSalud by going from 20.0% to 19.3%.
Likewise, in the rural area 97.5% are insured, the SIS reached the greatest coverage with 92.9%. In the urban area, from the 94.4% of the population that has health insurance, 67.2% stated that they are affiliated just to the SIS and the 23.5% are affiliated just to EsSalud.


19.4% of the population under 18 years of age stated that they suffer some health problem or chronic discomfort
Results of the National Households Survey informed that 19.4% of the population under 18 years of age stated that they suffer some health problem or chronic discomfort that compared to the same quarter of the year 2023, increased by 1.0 percentage point.
According to residence area, the population under 18 years of age with some health problem or chronic discomfort was greater in the urban area (22.3%), than in the rural area (9.3%).


64.8% of the population under 18 years of age with health problem or chronic discomfort received medical attention
The INEI informed that from the total of the population under 18 years old that informed they suffer of some health or chronic disease (19.4%), 64.8% sought medical attention in some health establishment, increasing in 0.6 percentage point, compared with the same quarter of the year 2023. Meanwhile that 35.2% did not seek medical attention.
From this total, the greater growth was registered among the population that attended a pharmacy by going from 21.9% to 25.6% and in establishments of EsSalud increased from 8.0% to 9.6%.


74.0% of the population of 14 to 17 years old just studies
At national level, 74.0% of the adolescent population from 14 to 17 years old just studies, followed by 15.9% that studies and helps in some activity, 5.8% that neither studies nor works, as well as the 4.3% that just works.
By comparing these results with the same quarter of the year 2023, the adolescent population that just studies decreased in 2.6 percentage points; meanwhile that the population that studies and helps in some activity increased in 3.5 percentage points.

In the urban area, 79.0% of the population of 14 to 17 years old just studies and in the rural area was 57.2%. Meanwhile, the percentage of adolescents from the rural area (31.8%) that is dedicated to study and help in some activity, is greater than the percentage of those from the urban area (11.1%).


49.6% of the households of the country has among their members at least one person under 18 years of age.
During the quarter October-November-December 2024, 49.6% of the households of the country have among their members at least one person under 18 years old. Likewise, it was informed that in the urban area 49.4% of households complied with this condition and in the rural area 50.4% of households have among their members at least one person under 18 years old.
