INEI participates in the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission

From 4 to 7 March of the current year, the Chief of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, participates in representation of Peru, in the fifty-sixth session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, in the city of New York, United States of America.

This event gathered more than 150 representatives of national statistical offices of the member countries, as well as important international organisms, among them the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Organization for the Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Institute for Statistics.


In addition, it participates the regional commissions of the United Nations (ECLAC, ECE, ESCWA, ESCAP) and its subsidiary bodies, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), among others.

Progress in National Accounts
Within the framework of the progresses of the United Nations towards the new System of National Accounts (SNA) of 2025, the Chief of the INEI, Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores stated that Peru will pay close attention to the guidelines for its implementation and informed that the institution is working in the new Base Year of the National Accounts; as well as, the Satellite Account of the Informal and Tourism sector. In addition, of the Environmental Accounts on Air Emissions and on Energy, with technical assistance of United Nations and of the International Monetary Fund.


Chief of the INEI announced the performance of the 2025 National Censuses
On another occasion, during the exposition of agenda items on the World Program on Population and Housing Censuses, the chief of the INEI, stated that Peru will perform the 2025 National Censuses between August and October, implementing a new methodology. Announced that the census officers will use electronic devices (tablets) for the collection of information about the population and housings. Likewise, it outstood the two pilot tests conducted and that as part of the preparatory activities, in April of 2025 will take place an experimental census.


The United Nations Statistical Commission is the main entity responsible at global level for coordinating the international statistics activities. Its labor includes the development of regulations, concepts and methodologies, as well as its implementation. During the current period of sessions, key issues will be discussed for the official statistics, such as the fundamental principles of official statistics, national accounts, population and housing censuses, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), employment statistics, demographic statistics, economic and business statistics, migration statistics, crime statistics and environmental statistics, among the main ones.
