Production of Fishing sector grew 23.51% during January of 2025

During January of the year 2025, the Fishing sector increased by 23.51% compared to the same month of 2024. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity.
This positive performance was based in the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (26.50%), intended to indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) that went from 122,976 tons in January 2024 to 508,202 tons in January 2025. The ports of Chimbote, Malabrigo, Ilo, Pacocha, Supe and Carquín outstood by their greater landings.
On the other hand, it decreased the fishing for direct human consumption (-32.91%), in the areas destined to frozen (-51.5%), prepared to be canned (-12.3%) and for consumption in fresh state (-7.4%); nevertheless, it grew for curing (42.3%).
The fishing of continental origin contracted by 0.83% before the lower landings of species for consumption in fresh state (-2.9%); meanwhile, it increased for frozen (7.5%) and preparation of curing (6.6%).
The increase of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector was based in the greater copper and molybdenum production
The INEI stated that the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector registered a growth of 1.39%, during January of 2025, determined by the progress in the metallic mining activity in 3.20%, in which it was registered the greater production of copper (7,3%), molybdenum (24.0%), silver (4.5%), iron (3.1%) and tin (0.3%); nevertheless, it decreased the production of gold (15.9%), zinc (12,2%) and lead (4.9%).
On the other hand, the hydrocarbons subsector reduced by 9.12% as a result of the lower volume of exploitation of natural gas liquids (-18.3%) and natural gas (-11.6%); nevertheless, the extraction of crude oil (8.8%) grew.
Electricity subsector increased by 1.90%
During the month under analysis, the electricity subsector registered a progress of 1.90%, driven by the increase in the energy generation systems from renewable sources such as wind-solar (28.39%) and of hydroelectric origin (3.41%); on the other hand, the generation of thermoelectric origin energy decreased by 7.77%.
Among the main companies that represented the greater production outstood the following companies Energía Renovable del Sur, Kallpa, Egasa, Inland, Statkraft Perú, Electroperú, Celepsa, Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Orazul Energy Perú and Empresa de Generación Huanza.
Domestic cement consumption decreased by 2.93%
During the first month of 2025, the domestic cement consumption decreased by 2.93%, compared to the same month of the year 2024. This result was explained by the lower dynamism of private and self-construction works.
Investment Expenditure of the General Government increased by 45.31%
During the month under analysis, the Investment Expenditure of the General Government (S/ 3,152 million) grew by 45.31%, compared to January of 2024, driven by construction works in the three government levels; as well as the greater acquisition of machinery and equipment in Local Government.
Likewise, the Consumption Expenditure of General Government, in nominal terms, totalized S/ 9,465 million, registering a variation of 7.13% compared to the same month of 2024.
Housing mortgage loans maintained its dynamism
During January of 2025, the housing mortgage loans reached S/ 66,937 million, increased by 5.10% compared to January of 2024. In addition, the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises by totalizing S/ 213,117 million, increasing by 0.99%, compared to the same month of 204.
On the other hand, the consumption credits placed in S/ 72,375 million, a lower figure by 1.37%, compared to the registered in January of 2024.
The INEI informed that the placement of credit cards of multiple banking totalized 6,333 thousand units, increasing by 0.52%, compared to the same month of 2024.
Total amount imported increased by 27.51%
The total amount imported was of US$ 5,168 million, in January of 2025, higher rate in 27.51% compared to the value registered in the same month of the year 2024, according to information available as of February of 2025.
This behavior was explained by the import of raw materials and intermediate products by placing in US$ 2,599 million, varying in 28.80%, compared to the value registered in January 2024.
Likewise, the amount imported of consumption goods totalized US$ 1,072 million, registering a progress of 23.85%, compared to the value registered in the same month of 2024. And the import of capital goods and construction materials (US$ 1,497 million) increased by 27.99%, compared to the same month of the year 2024.
