Four departments contributed with the 70.5% of the potato production at national level driven by good thermal conditions

During December of the year 2024, the production of potato registered a positive behavior, mainly explained by the departments of Lima (122.5%), Puno (40.2%), Huánuco (39.9%) and Junín (4.2%), that together totalized the 70.5% of the national total.
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Peru: Economic Outlook by Department also stated that the production of this tuber, increased in Ica (959.2%), Ayacucho (326.6%), Ancash (270.9%), Cusco (95.6%), Moquegua (9.0%) and Pasco (4.6%). Nevertheless, it decreased in Apurímac (-65.5%), Huancavelica (-61.5%), La Libertad (-23.9%), Arequipa (-18.6%) and Cajamarca (-2.1%), among others.
At national level, the potato production totalized 329 thousand 836 tons, a higher level in 19.9% than the obtained in the same month of 2023 (275 thousand 121 tons), due to the good thermal conditions presented in agriculture zones that favoured the increase of the harvested areas of this crop with great demand in the domestic market.
45.5% contributed in the grape production, the departments of Lambayeque, La Libertad and Piura
During the last month of the year 2024, the grape production increased in the producing plants of the North coast, placed in the departments of Lambayeque (339.0%), La Libertad (328.6%) and Piura (243.9%), which contributed with the 45.5% of the national total. At the same time, it grew in Arequipa (46.5%) and Ancash (27.0%). During December of 2024, this fruit, one of the main products of non-traditional export, had as main destination the United States of America.
Meanwhile, it reduced in Ica 16.0%, in spite of this, the region remained as the first manufacturer of this crop with a participation of 51.2%; in addition, it contracted in Cajamarca 13.1% and San Martín 4.6%.
At national level, the grape production reached 263 thousand 891 tons, achieving an expansion of 31.5% compared to December of 2023.
Four departments concentrated the 87.3% of the poultry production
During the month under study, the poultry production increased in the producer zones of the departments of Lima (5.9%), Ica (1.4%), Arequipa (1.3%) and La Libertad (0.2%), contributing together with the 87.3% of the national total. Likewise, it increased in Huancavelica (1.8%) and Huánuco (0.5%).
Meanwhile, it was counterbalanced by the lower volumes registered in the departments of San Martín (-2.7%), Lambayeque (-1.2%), Loreto (-1.1%), Tacna (-1.0%), Ucayali (-1.0%), Piura (-0.6%) and Ancash (-0.05%), among others.
Across the country, the poultry production grew by 3.4% compared to the same month of 2023, determined by the greater placement of BB chicken meat line and fattening turkeys.
Copper production returned to the growing path
The INEI informed that the copper production increased in Huánuco (28.3%), Junín (27.3%), Ica (18.9%), Arequipa (16.7%), Apurímac (16.5%), Huancavelica (13.8%), Lima (13.1%), Cajamarca (7.2%) and Tacna (1.8%). Meanwhile, it reduced in Ayacucho 31.0%, Cusco 17.1%, Ancash 12.6%, Pasco 11.3% and Moquegua 0.1%.
Across the country, the copper production increased by 3.3%, after registered three months of negative results, based in the greater extraction performed in the companies Minera Chinalco Perú, Cerro Verde, Minera Las Bambas and Marcobre.
Likewise, during the month under analysis, outstood the extraction volumes of silver, molybdenum and gold extraction; nevertheless, it decreased the zinc, tin, iron and lead.
In twelve departments increased the electricity production
During December of 2024, the departments that showed a greater production of electricity, were Madre de Dios (123.9%), Lambayeque (60.6%), Ica (50.9%), Arequipa (34.4%), Tumbes (26.6%), Piura (19.9%), Ancash (12.0%), La Libertad (9.2%), Huancavelica (6.3%), Huánuco (3.8%), Tacna (2.9%) and Loreto (0.3%).
Nevertheless, it decreased in Lima 3.1%, first producer of electric energy in the country; Ucayali 87.0%, Cajamarca 37.2%, Amazonas 17.5%, Pasco 7.6%, Ayacucho 7.3% and Apurímac 3.2%, among others.
The electric energy production, at national level, increased by 2.2%, determined by the greater generation of energy in the hydropower power stations of Cahua, Mantaro, Restitución, Chaglla, Huanza, Yanango, Charcani V and San Gabán II, among the main ones. Likewise, it increased the generation of non-conventional renewable origin energy (Eolic and solar).
Nevertheless, the electric generation energy reduced in the thermic power stations of Ventanilla, Eten, Santa Rosa, Piura, Chilca I, Malacas, Termoselva and Kallpa, among others.
Three departments contributed with the 90.6% of the total revenue by internal taxes
The revenues collected by internal taxes, during December of 2024, totalized 12 thousand 484 million 283 thousand Soles and expanded by 24.0% compared to the same month of 2023, due to the greater payments performed by the income tax, value-added taxes and special tax to mining.
During the month under analysis, twenty-three departments registered increases in the amount collected; outstanding Lima (22,2%), followed by Arequipa (39.3%) and La Libertad (27.3%), that together concentrated the 90.6% of the national total. Meanwhile, Piura (-13.6%), was the only department that decreased its level of collection.
