Restaurants activity increased 4.06% in December of 2024

The restaurants activity (services of foods and beverages) grew 4.06% in December of 2024, due to the dynamism of the restaurant’s activity, beverages service, other activities of foods services and the supplying of foods by contractors.

The National Institute of Statistics of Informatics (INEI), the technical report Monthly Survey of Services, also informed that, during the year 2024, the mentioned activity registered an increase of 3.45%, compared to the year 2023.

During the month under analysis, the restaurants group registered a progress of 4.58%, based in the increase of the demand in the establishments of restaurants, fast foods, pollerías (grilled chicken restaurants), cevicherías (seafood restaurants), sandwich restaurants, touristic restaurants, Chifas (Chinese food restaurants), meats and grills, international food and coffee restaurants, before discounts due to membership in platforms of delivery service, business partnerships and organization of events and dinners due to Christmas and New Year celebrations.

To this result, contributed the celebration of the Day of Peruvian Grill, Cyber Monday and public holidays, also the performance of different gastronomic fairs such as “Feria Expo Puno 2024” (Lima), “Ayacucho Bicentennial Festival” (Ayacucho) and the international fair “2024 Hanói Internacional Gastronomic Festival” (Vietnam).

During the month under study, beverage service increased by 6.07%, driven by business of coffee shops, bar restaurants, discotheques, bars and juice shops.

This dynamism was associated to the promotions and discounts by subscription in means of written communication, free drink, exotic cocktails, combos in breakfasts, offers of natural juices and integration and brotherhood meetings by end-of-year festivities with live music and prize drawings.

During the last month of the year 2024, other activities of food services grew 0.82%, favored by the activity of concessionaire of foods, due to the renovation and collection of contracts of food services with companies of mining, fishing, electricity sector, cement plants, financial entities, public institutions, clinics and hospitals; in addition, this sector included banquets services such as corporative festivities of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

On the other hand, the supplying of foods for contractors (food services to air and inland transportation companies) was affected due to the lower demand of contracting companies.

During the month of December of 2024, the supplying of foods by contractors (catering) expanded by 13.72% due to the greater orders of preparation and food distribution for events, attention of dinner buffet, midnight toasts, executive breakfasts, conventions and corporative snacks; linked to celebrations on the occasion of the end of the year.
