Traffic flow of vehicles at national level grew 4.6% in December of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of December of 2024, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased by 4.6% compared to the same month of 2023.
In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths is stated that the monthly result is based in the greater movement of light-duty units (4.1%) and heavy-duty units (5.2%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty increased by 5.2%
During December of 2024, the movement of heavy-duty units registered through the tollbooths at national level, increased by 5.2% compared to the same month of 2023, influenced by the greater demand of the Agriculture sectors, that was favored by the greater levels of cultivated areas and good weather conditions; Fishing, due to the greater anchovy capture; Mining, due to the greater extraction of copper, molybdenum, silver and gold; Manufacturing, due to the dynamism of the primary manufacturing and non-primary manufacturing subsectors (consumption and capital goods); consumption and capital goods); and wholesale trade based in the increase of the sale of machinery and equipment, mainly heavy- duty machinery. Likewise, solid, liquid, gaseous fuels and lubricants, among others also influenced.
The greater traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles, was registered: At the north: in San Martín (Moyobamba 19.2%, Pongo 12.4% and Aguas Claras 11.4%), Piura (Chulucanas 18.7% and Paita 10.3%), Ancash (Huarmey 13.2%), La Libertad (Chicama 11.4%, Pacanguilla 11.0% and Virú 7.6%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 10.7%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 7.9%).
In the center, increased in Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 15.2%, Fortaleza 14.3% and El Paraíso 11.5%) and Junín (Quiulla 4.3%); and in the south, in Ica (Marcona 25.3% and Jahuay Chincha 11.9%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 17.7%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 16.8%), Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 13.6% and Uchumayo Concesión 5.9%), Moquegua (Ilo 12.8%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 5.9%).
Movement of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 5.4%
During the last month of 2024, the traffic flow of heavy-duty for loading of 3 to 7 axle, registered a growth of 5.4% compared to December of 2023, explained by the high traffic flow of vehicles for loading, such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks for loading of 3 axle (2.0%), 4 axle (6.1%), 5 axle (6.8%), 6 axle (6.8%) and 7 axle (30.7%).
Traffic flow of light-duty units increased by 4.1%
During December of 2024, the traffic flow of light-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased by 4.1% compared to the same month of 2023. This positive performance, was driven by the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the Immaculate Conception, Battle of Ayacucho, Christmas and New Year’s Day, that encouraged the displacement of families to make purchases in shopping centers; to perform recreational or touristic activities in different regions of the country, which positively impact in the development of Accommodation and Restaurant sectors and Retail trade.
The tollbooths that registered high traffic flow, were: To the North, in San Martín (Aguas Claras 13.5%, Pongo 10.8% and Moyobamba 4.9%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 9.6%), La Libertad (Chicama 9.3%, Pacanguilla 3.9% and Virú 2,1%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 7.1% and Chulucanas 5.4%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 5.3%) and Ancash (Huarmey 2.5%).
In the center, it increased in Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 30.6%, Fortaleza 7.2% y Variant of Pasamayo 1.3%) and Junín (Quiulla 10.7% and Casaracra 9.4%); and in the south, in Apurímac (Pichirhua 10.9%), Puno (Santa Lucía 9.4%), Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 7.1%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 7.0%), Moquegua (Ilo 6.6% and Pampa Cuellar 0.6%) and Ica (Jahuay Chincha 5.6%).
