Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area grew 3.1% between the months of November -December 2024 and January 2025

During the mobile quarter November-December 2024 and January 2025, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased by 3.1% (165 thousand 800), compared to the same quarter of the last period and totalized 5 million 461 thousand 200 persons. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
Likewise, it also informed that the male employed population increased by 3.6% (102 thousand 400) and the female employed population increased by 2.6% (63 thousand 400). It should be pointed out that from the total of the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 54.2% (2 million 959 thousand) are men and 45.8% (2 million 502 thousand 200) are women.
The employed population of 45 years of age and older increased by 6.8%
During the quarter under study, the employed population of 45 years of age and older grew by 6.8% (134 thousand 100) and in the population of 25 to 44 years of age grew by 4.1% (105 thousand). On the other hand, the employment reduced by 10.1% (73 thousand200) in the population under 25 years of age.
Population with high-school education increased by 5.8%
Among the months of November 2024 and January 2025, the employed population with secondary education level increased by 5.8% (130 thousand 500), followed by those that reached university superior education level increased by 2.5% (37 thousand 900) and the population of non-university superior education level increased by 0.2% (2 thousand 600). On the other hand, the population with primary or lower education level decreased by 1.4% (5 thousand 200).
Construction and Manufacturing generate a greater number of employments
The INEI informed that the employed population increased in the Construction activity 22.1% (80 thousand) and in Manufacturing activity 13.3% (86 thousand), followed by Commerce activity 4.7% (53 thousand 700). On the other hand, the employment in Services activity reduced by 1.5% (46 thousand 900).
Employed population increased 7.6% in companies of 11 to 50 employees
The employed population increased by 7.6% (43 mil) in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees; it increased by 6.5% (91 thousand 900) in companies of 51 and more employees and it increased by 0.9% (30 thousand 800) in establishments of 1 to 10 employees.
Population with suitable employment increased 12.0%
In Lima Metropolitan area, the population with suitable employment reached 3 million 479 thousand 900 persons and registered a growth of 12.0% (373 thousand 800), compared to the same period of the last year.
On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 9.5% (208 thousand). In this context, the underemployed by insufficiency of work hours decreased by 7.4% (32 thousand 200) and the underemployed by incomes decreased by 10.0% (175 thousand 800).
Unemployment rate was of 6.2% in Lima Metropolitan area
During the mobile quarter under analysis, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.2%, it is estimated that 358 thousand 100 persons actively seek employment in the capital city. The female unemployment rate placed in 6.9%, being 1.4 percentage points more than the male unemployment rate (5.5%).
Average monthly income coming from work grew by 10.4%
During the mobile quarter of November- December 2024 and January 2025, the average monthly income coming from work placed in 2,126.20 Soles in Lima Metropolitan area, a higher amount in 10.4% (200.10 Soles), than the registered in the same mobile quarter of the last year (1,926,10 Soles).
In addition, the average monthly income of men placed in 2,419.50 Soles and the average monthly income of women placed in 1,773.20 Soles; it means that, women earn the 73.3% of men income.
Average monthly income increased in all age groups
According to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), average monthly income coming from work increased by 10.0% (199.60 Soles) in the group of 45 years old and over, increased by 9.4% (195.10 Soles) among those that are between 25 to 44 years of age and among the employed under 25 years of age increased by 7.4% (87.10 Soles).
Those employed in Commerce and Construction registered the greater incomes
The average monthly income coming from work increased between among the employed population that develop activities in Commerce in 16.7% (244.70 Soles) and Construction in 14.9% (304.50 Soles), followed by Services in 9.2% (189.10 Soles) and in Manufacturing 4.6% (90.00 Soles) sector.
