Chief of the INEI participated at the International Symposium on AI and Data Science for Economic Statistics organized by United Nations

From January 20 to January 22 of the current year, the Chief of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, participated in the International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science for Economic Statistics, organized by the United States in the city of Dubai of United Arab Emirates.
This event has as main objective to provide information about the use of AI and Data Science to improve the operating efficiency and the provision of services of the National Statistical Offices (ONE), especially in the economic statistics.
During the development of the symposium, the participants share their experiences on the integration of the mentioned tools in the production of official statistics. On the other hand, Dr. Gaspar Morán mentioned that the INEI is boosting the use of AI and Data Science, identifying optimal grouping models in spatial points for the location of housings in the process for Cartographic Updating within the framework of the 2025 National Censuses.
In that sense, he also stated that the AI application and the Data Science offer great opportunities for the INEI, improving the precision of data, reducing cuts and increasing the capability of response. He also stated that in order to maximize these benefits, our institution needs to address challenges such as technologic infrastructure, specialized training and ethics.
Finally, he also stated the importance of to strengthen alliances with international organism; as well prioritize the investment in the technological development and training for personnel. He highlighted that the integration of these technologies will position the INEI as leader in innovation and advanced statistical solutions, boosting the progress of the National Statistical System (SEN).
