INEI received the technical assistance mission of the IMF about the progresses in the elaboration of Energy and Atmospheric Emissions Accoun

In order to continue with the strengthen of the statistics and environmental accounts, to support the formulation of mitigation policies and/or adaptation to climate change, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) received a mission of technical assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is responsible of the review of the progress.
The activities of the mission took place at the main headquarter of the INEI and were developed from February 3 to February 7 of 2025 and it participated Mrs. Lisbeth Rivas, senior economist of the Real Sector Division of the Statistics Department of IMF, Statistics Department of the IMF, and Mr. Alcino Gomes, expert in environmental and weather. In the final session participated Mr. Massimo Bloch, Director of the Economic Cooperation between Switzerland – SECO in Peru.
It is worth to mention that the equipment of the mission worked with the people in charge of performing the compilation of energy and atmospheric emissions accounts, to evaluate the results and check progress for the publication of experimental accounts of energy and atmospheric emissions initially for 2019 to the published this current year. Likewise, it worked in the practical training and the development of a work plan within the framework of the INEI support project.
It is important to outstood the work that is being performed, taking into account the context of climate change that the planet is living and particularly our country. Likewise, it results consistent with the recommendations of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), within the context of the adhesion of our country to this international organization, to prepare Energy Accounts and Emissions to the Atmosphere Accounts.
The working sessions included the participation of officials of INEI National Accounts and representatives of institutions, such as, The Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), The National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) and Supervising Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (OSINERGMIN).
