Fishing sector increased 76.76% in December of 2024

During December of 2024, the Fishing sector grew 76.76%, compared to the same month of the last year, closing 2024 with an accumulated variation of 24.89%. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity.
This positive performance was based in the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (81.55%), intended to indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) that totalized 927,855 tons, figure that compared with the volume obtained in December of the year 2023 (162,862 tons) registered an increase of 469.7%, related to the last month of anchovy fishing second season. The ports that outstood by reporting a greater landing were Chimbote, Malabrigo, Coishco, Carquín and Callao.
Nevertheless, the landing of species for direct human consumption decreased (-35.65%), in its four destinations: frozen (-58.1%), preparation of canning (-36.3%), preparation of curing (-35.9%) and consumption in fresh state (-1.9%).
In addition, the fishing of continental origin increased by 14.99% due to the greater extraction of species for frozen (47.9%) and the consumption in fresh state (9.4%); meanwhile it reduced for the preparation of curing (-47.0%).
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 1.97%
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew by 1.97% determined by the increase of 2.03% in the metal mining activity, due to the greater volume of molybdenum (32.2%), copper (3.3%), silver (17.9%) and gold (1.0%); meanwhile, the production of zinc (-25.3%), tin (-23.5%), iron (-1.1%) and lead (-0.5%) decreased.
Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsector increased by 1.47% as a result of the greater volume of exploitation of natural gas liquids (4.6%); on the other hand, the extraction of natural gas (-1.5%) and crude oil (-0.2%) reduced.
Electricity generation grew by 2.16%
During the last month of the year 2024, the electricity subsector increased by 2.16% due to the increase of the generation of Eolic-solar renewable energy (39.3%) and hydroelectric origin (2.9%); on the other hand, the generation of thermoelectric origin energy (-7.7%).
The companies that outstood by its greater production were: Fenix Power Perú S.A., Empresa de Generación Huanza S.A., Electro Ucayali S.A., Kallpa Generación S.A., Egasa, Electroperú S.A., Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Huallaga S.A., Compañía Eléctrica El Platanal S.A., Empresa de Generación Eléctrica San Gabán y Chinango.
Domestic cement consumption increased by 0.50%
The INEI informed that the domestic cement consumption increased by 0.50%, compared to the same month of the last year. The mentioned positive behavior was associated to the progress of works of private origin and to self-construction.
Granting of housing mortgage loans grew by 5.12%
During December of 2024, mortgage loans totalized S/ 66,700 million, increasing by 5.12% compared to December of 2023.
Nevertheless, the consumption credits decreased by 2.49% by totalizing S/ 71,748 million, as well as the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises that reached S/ 213,044 million, showing a reduction of 0.37% compared to the same month of 2024.
Likewise, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking placed in 6,313 thousand units, a lower figure by 0.84%, compared to the month of December of 2023.
Total amount imported increase by 13.0%
During December of 2024, the total amount imported reached US$ 4,918 million, a higher rate in 13.00%, compared to the recorded value registered in December of 2023, according to information available as of January 20 of 2025.
This favorable result is explained by the amount imported of consumer goods that placed in US$ 1,095 million (17.96%); followed by the import of raw materials and intermediate products that placed in US$ 2,419 million, changing by 14.83% and the import of capital goods and construction materials, that totalized US$ 1,401 million, increasing by 6.41%, compared to December of the year 2023.
