In 2024 the Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area grew by 4.6%

During the year 2024, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 459 thousand 200 persons and increased by 4.6% (242 thousand 200) compared to 2023. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
Likewise, the male employed population grew 4.8% (135 thousand 300) and the female grew by 4.4% (107 thousand), compared to the last year.
The employed population in the group of 45 years of age and older increased by 9.1%
According to age groups, during the year 2024, the employed population of 45 years of age and older grew by 9.1% (174 thousand 200) and the group of 25 to 44 years of age grew by 3.6% (92 thousand 400); meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years of age decreased by 3.3% (24 thousand 400).
The employed population in Manufacturing are increased by 8.1%
During 2024, compared to the last year, the employed population increased in the Manufacturing area 8.1% (54 thousand 500), in Commerce and Construction area increased by 6.1%, in each case, (69 thousand 500 and 23 thousand 300, respectively) and in Services area increased by 3.0% (89 thousand 700).
The employed population grew by 5.8% in the companies of 11 to 50 employees
During the year 2024, the employment increased by 5.8% in companies of 11 to 50 employees (32 thousand 700), in the establishments of 51 and more employees increased by 5.2% (74 thousand 600) and in the economic units of 1 to 10 employees increased by 4.2% (135 thousand).
Unemployment rate was of 6.4%
During the year 2024, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.4%, a lower figure in 0.4 percentage point, compared to the registered in the year 2023 (6.8%).
The average monthly income coming from work increased by 6.6%
During the year 2024, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed 2,035.40 Soles and increased by 6.6% (125.60 Soles), compared to the year 2023.
Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area grew 4.4% in the IV quarter of 2024
The employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 554 thousand 300 persons during the fourth quarter of the year 2024 and increased by 4.4% (234 thousand 600 persons), compared to the same quarter of the year 2023.
The male employed population grew 5.0% and the female employed population grew 3.7%
During the mobile quarter of October-November-December of 2024, the male employed population increased by 5.0% (144 thousand 200) and the female employed population increased by 3.7% (90 thousand 400), compared to the same period of 2023.
The employed population of 45 years of age and older increased by 7.9%
During the IV quarter of 2024, the employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 7.9% (159 thousand 600), followed by the group of 25 to 44 years old by 3.7% (97 thousand 900); nevertheless, in the employed population under 25 years of age decreased by 3.3% (22 thousand 800).
The employed population with secondary education level grew by 8.9%
During the last quarter of 2024, the employment increased by 8.9% (199 thousand 800) in greater proportion in the population with secondary education level; followed by the population with primary or lower level of education by 3.4% (12 thousand 100) and in those that reached university superior by 1.9% (29 thousand). Meanwhile, in the population with non-university superior education level reduced by 0.6% (6 thousand 300).
Employment mainly grew in Construction and Manufacturing areas
During the quarter October-November-December of 2024, the employment mainly grew in the Construction sector by 18.5% (65 thousand 900) and in Manufacturing sector by 14.1% (93 thousand 800) by comparing with the same quarter of the year 2023; likewise, in commerce sector grew by 5.9% (68 thousand 900); meanwhile, in Services sector did not show a significant variation.
Employed population grew by 19.2% in companies of 11 to 50 employees
During the last quarter of 2024, increased by 19.2% (104 thousand 100), the employed population in companies of 11 to 50 employees, compared to the same period of the year 2023. Followed by the economic units of 51 and more employees by 6.0% (86 thousand 100), as well as in the establishments of 1 to 10 employees by 1.3% (44 thousand 300).
The population with suitable job grew by 12.0%
During the IV quarter of the year 2024, the population properly employed reached 3 million 479 thousand persons, compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 increased by 12.0% (371 thousand 900). Meanwhile, the underemployed population reached 2 million 75 thousand 100 and decreased by 6.2% (137 thousand 400).
Unemployment rate placed in 5,5%
During the mobile quarter October-November-December 2024, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed by 5.5%, it is estimated that 325 thousand persons actively sought employment.
Average monthly income coming from work increased by 9.6%
During the IV quarter of the year 2024, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in S/. 2,113.50 Soles, registered an increase of 9.6% (185.40 Soles), compared to the same period of the last year. On the other hand, the average monthly income of the female employed population grew by 13.1% (206.80 Soles) and male employed population grew by 7.3% (162.90 Soles).
