Use of gas for the preparation of foods reached 88.6% of the households of the country

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the third quarter of 2024, informed that in Peru, 88.6% of the households cook their food with gas (use just gas and besides the gas they use other type of fuel), compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (88.1%), increased in 0.5 percentage point.
Likewise, 93.9% of urban households and 68.1% of the rural area used gas to cook their foods. Compared to the same quarter of the last year, it was registered an increase of 4.6 percentage points in the rural area (63.5%); meanwhile, it decreased in 0.5 percentage point in the urban area (94.4%).
On the other hand, 6.1% of the households use firewood to cook foods, a lower figure in 0.9 percentage point, compared with the third quarter of the year 2023 (7.0%).
School attendance of the population of 12 to 16 years old to secondary education level reached 87.3% during the third quarter of 2024
The INEI informed that the school attendance of the population of 12 to 16 years old to secondary education level reached 87.3%, a figure higher in 1.0 percentage point to the registered in the third quarter of the last year (86.3%).
The school attendance of this population group in the urban area was of 87.7% and in the rural area of 85.8%. Compared to the same quarter of the last year grew in 0.5 and 2.4 percentage points, respectively.
47.3% of the population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment
The population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment was of 47.3%. Therefore, 20.9% sought attention in pharmacy or apothecary, 14.7% sought medical attention in establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), 5.0% went to establishments of the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) and 4.6% went to private practice.
By residence area, in the urban area the place or establishment of greater consultation were the pharmacy or apothecary with 22.2%, followed by the establishments of Ministry of Health or MINSA, 12.0%. In the rural area, 25.9% sought medical attention in establishments of MINSA and 15.6% sought medical attention in pharmacy or apothecary.
90.7% of the population interviewed informed they have some type of health insurance
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the third quarter of 2024, 90.7% of the population interviewed informed they have some type of health insurance, a higher figure in 2.0 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the year 2023 (88.7%). According to residence area the access of this service was greater in rural area (93.6%) than in the urban area (89.9%).
By type of health insurance, the greater proportion of the population accessed just to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) with 62.8%, followed by the population with access to EsSalud Insurance (23.3%) and other insurance (4.5%).
90.1% of the households of the country have a gas cooker
According to the results of the survey, during the third quarter of 2024, 90.1% of the households of the country have a gas cooker. According to residence area, those that have a gas cooker in the urban area was of 94.4% and in the rural area was of 75.7%.
On the other hand, 56.8% have refrigerator/freezer, 36.3% have computer/ laptop and 33.4%, have a washing machine.
58.3% of the population of 18 years old and older have some account in the financial system during the third quarter of 2024
According to the results of the National Household Survey, 58.3% of the population of 18 years old and older have some account in the financial system (saving account or remuneration account, Time Deposit account or current account). According to residence area this percentage was of 62.2% in the urban area and in the rural area was of 40.0%.
