INEI and the Regional Government of Arequipa sign agreement to support the National Censuses 2025

Within the framework of the 6th Council of Regional State, performed from 11 to 12 of December in the city of Piura, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) and the Regional Government of Arequipa signed an agreement of Interinstitutional Cooperation to support the National Censuses 2025: XII of Population, VIII of Household and IV of Indigenous Communities.

The agreement was signed by the Chief of the INEI Gaspar Morán Flores and Rohel Sánchez Sánchez, regional governor of Arequipa, consolidating the commitment of both parts with the important census process, considered a national priority by Supreme Nº 063-2024-PCM, of June 22 of 2024.

According to the agreement, the INEI will call, train and monitor the technical personnel in charge of the census operation. In addition, it will coordinate the activities of dissemination and communication to guarantee the participation of the population. Once the census concluded, the entity will provide the definitive results to regional and local authorities, and will support the Regional Government in using these data for research and planification.

Meanwhile, the Regional Government of Arequipa committed to support the dissemination and census communication, offer the update of territorial limits and to provide the physical space if necessary for the activities of the INEI. This way, both institutions will work together to guarantee the quality of data and the confidentiality of the information.

The National Census 2025, that are planned to be performed during the second semester of the next year, will have as one of its main innovations the use of digital tools to optimize the process of data collection in the households.

The censuses will allow us to update the vital information about the population, housing and indigenous communities, orienting key decisions in public policies and assignation of resources. Although the national census should be performed in 2027, the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of the wide international migration makes necessary its performance this 2025.

The agreement with the Regional Government of Arequipa is the beginning of similar agreements to be signed with all the regions of the country, towards the next censuses of 2025.

The INEI remembers that is essential the collaboration of the regional and local authorities in order to perform the National Censuses with success, therefore ensuring the collection of precise and complete data.
