This Monday 9th of December commemorates the 200 years of the Battle of Ayacucho, an event that marked the end in the consolidation of the independence of Peru and South America.
This historic gesture remembers us the bravery and the spirit of unity of our peoples. Men and women, coming of different regions of the country, and even of different nationalities, joined efforts with a common purpose. For this reason, today we pay tribute to those heroes and heroines, and reaffirm that the union continues to be the most powerful strength to drive the changes that our country needs.
The Battle of Ayacucho not only symbolize the end of the Spanish rule in Peru and South America, but also the beginning of the construction of a nation with great challenges ahead.
Within the framework of the celebrations of this historic date, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) had prepared the special compendium “Statistics of the Bicentennial of the Consolidation of Out Independence”, which offers a comprehensive analysis of the development of the country in the last decades.
This collection document is a tool to reflect over the path we had traveled, emphasizing significant progress in social, economic and demographic aspects, as well as challenges that Peru still faces.
The INEI extends a warm greeting to all Peruvians in this such an important date in the history of our country. Likewise, it greatly appreciated the households, companies and institutions that with its collaboration, had allowed the collection of essential information for the preparation of this flagship publication.
