Commercial activity grew 3.45%, in September of 2024

The Commerce sector registered a growth of 3.45% during September 2024, compared to the same month of the last year, determined by the good performance of the wholesale trade, retail trade and automotive trade.
Between January to September of the current year, the sector accumulated a growth of 2.72%.
Wholesale trade increased 3.41%
The wholesale trade increased 3.41%, driven by the sale of solid, liquid, gas fuels and lubricants, targeted to productive sectors such as mining and transportation, to retail centers and domestic gas distributors.
The sale of other household goods increased before the greater rotation of products for household and personal care, pharmaceutical and medicinal, cosmetics, perfumery articles and devices for domestic use.
Likewise, it registered a positive performance the sale of nutritional products, electronic security equipment, biochemical products and pharmaceutical products for animal health. Moreover, the sale of machinery and equipment registered an increase due to requirement of heavy machinery, electric equipment, measurement instruments, equipment of transportation such as elevators, mechanic stairs and medical equipment.
In addition, the sale of agricultural raw materials and live animals increased, due to the demand of grains and seeds, oleaginous fruit and live birds. Likewise, the sale of foods, beverages and tobacco increased.
On the other hand, the sale of construction material, hardware covers and heating articles; and the sale of metals and metal ores.
Sale in department stores and the “Shopping Day” drove the retail trade
The retail trade showed a growth of 3.67%, mainly favoring by the sale in department stores linked to the event “2024 Shopping Day”. Likewise, the sale of supermarkets and mini-markets showed a positive trend due to the opening of new sale points.
Likewise, the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal, cosmetics products and toiletries increased by the diversification of products and advertising campaigns. The same trend registered the sale of agro-veterinarian products, security articles and personal defense, odontology, optical products, slot machines, food supplements, watches and jewelry products.
In the same sense evolved the sale of computers, computer accessories, computer programs and telecommunication equipment, driven by the demand of business sector and education in line.
In addition, the sale of clothing items, footwear and leather articles grew influenced by marketing strategies. Simultaneously, the sale of household appliances, furniture, lighting equipment increased due to the greater demand. Likewise, the sale of food, beverages and tobacco products in sales stalls and markets, due to the demand of essential goods.
Nevertheless, the sale of beverages and sale of sport articles in specialized stores showed a downward trend.
Automotive trade grew by 2.74%
The automotive trade registered an increase of 2.74%, due to the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles, due to the greater rotation of pneumatics and lubricants. Moreover, the sale of automotive vehicles grew due to the opening of new facilities and greater demand of heavy-duty vehicles and of passengers’ transportation.
In addition, the service of maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles showed progress due to promotions and advertising strategies and the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles.
