Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area totalized 5 million 505 thousand persons from August to October of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI) informed that during the mobile quarter August-September-October of 2024, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased by 5.3% (277 thousand 400 persons) compared to the same quarter of 2023, and totalized 5 million 505 thousand persons.
During the technical report Situation of Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), is stated that, the total of the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 54.6% (3 million 5 thousand 400) are men and 45.4% (2 million 499 thousand 600) women.
In addition, it informed that the male employed population increased by 7.0% (195 thousand 700) and the female employed population increased by 3.4% (81 thousand 700) compared to the quarter August-September-October of 2023.
The employed population of 45 years of age and over grew by 8.9%
The employed population of 45 years of age and over increased by 8.9% (174 thousand 400) compared to the same quarter of 2023. Likewise, the employed population of 25 to 44 years of age grew by 4.9% (126 thousand 100). Nevertheless, the employed population under 25 years of age decreased by 3.3% (23 thousand persons lower) compared to the same quarter of 2023.
Employed population with secondary education showed greater dynamism by increasing in 7.5%
The INEI informed that the employed population with secondary education grew by 7.5% (164 thousand 300) compared to the same quarter of 2023. A performance equally positive registered the employed population with university superior education, that increased by 6.4% (99 thousand 300) and non-university superior education that increased by 3.8% (42 thousand 800). On the other hand, the employed population with primary or lower education level decreased by 8.0% (29 thousand persons less).
The employment in companies of 11 to 50 employees grew by 11.5%
The employed population in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees increased by 11.5% (62 thousand 800), followed by the establishments of 51 employees and more, in 4.9% (71 thousand 400) and in the companies of 1 to 10 employees, in 4.4% and in companies of 1 to 10 employees, in 4.4% (143 thousand 200).
Population with suitable employment increased by 8.8%
During the quarter of August-September-October of 2024, the population with suitable employment grew by 8.8% (273 thousand 600) and reached 3 million 376 thousand persons. On the other hand, the underemployment increased 0.2% (3 thousand 800).
Unemployment rate reached 5.7%
During the mobile quarter August-September-October of 2024, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.7%. It is estimated that 335 thousand 700 persons actively seeking employment in the capital of Peru.
The monthly average income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 6.2%
During the mobile quarter under study, the monthly average income coming from work placed in S/. 2,075.20 Soles, it means, it increased by 6.2% (s/. 120.50 Soles) compared with the same mobile quarter of the last year.
The average income in employed population of 45 years of age and older grows by 6.6%
The INEI informed that the monthly average income in the employed population of 45 years of age and older increased by 6.6% (S/. 137.6 Soles), and in the group of 25 to 44 years of age increased by 5.8% (S/. 117.3 Soles). Meanwhile, it decreased by 0.9% (S/. 10.6 Soles less) in the employed population under 25 years of age of employed population under 25 years of age.
Average monthly income grew in all education levels
During the quarter under study, the average monthly income grew by 11.8% (S/. 128.0 Soles) among those that had primary or lower level of education, in 6.4% (S/. 91.0 Soles) among the population with secondary education, in 6.1% (S/. 182.70 Soles) among the employees with university superior education, and in 3.2% (S/. 56.90 Soles) in those that reached non-university superior education.
Growth of average income in the Services sector was of 8.1%
Average monthly income coming from work increased among the employed population that performs activities in the Services sector in 8.1% (S/. 166.80 Soles), followed by Manufacturing sector, in 4.3% (S/. 81.40 Soles) and Commerce, in 0.9% (S/. 15.10 Soles). On the other hand, decreased in Construction sector in 1.1% (S/. 24.0 Soles less).
