Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew 1.06% during September of 2024

The production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased 1.06% in September of 2024 compared to the same month of the last year. Through the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), also informed that in this economic sector accumulated a growth of 2.94% in the first nine months of the year.

In the result of the nineth month of the current year, the metal-mining activity increased in 1.73%. Influence in this performance the greater production of molybdenum (34.7%), silver (14.7%) and tin (7.8%); meanwhile that it decreased zinc (-15.0%), iron (-1.9%), lead (-1.0%), copper (-0.4%) and gold (-0.3%).


On the other hand, the hydrocarbons subsector decreased in 3.26% associated to the lower volume of liquids of natural gas (-4.2%) and natural gas (-4.8%). Meanwhile, the production of crude oil grew (1.4%).


The fishing activity decreased in 14.63%
The Fishing sector decreased 14.63% explained by the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-12.19%) and continental origin (-28.78%).


The capture of species for direct human consumption reduced in 12.26% before the lower landing of species oriented to the preparation of canning (-58.3%), preparation of curing (-40.6%), consumption in fresh state (-12.2%) and for frozen (-4.7%).


Nevertheless, the extraction of resource intended to indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) increased in 47.16%, from 436 tons registered in September of 2023, went to 642 tons in September of 2024. This extraction corresponded to the south zone of the coastline; area characterized by the lower availability of the mentioned resource.


On the hand, the fishing of continental origin contracted 28.78% affected by the lower landing of species for consumption in fresh state (-31.9%), preparation for curing (-73.0%) and for frozen (-5.2%).


The Electricity subsector increased in 2.00%
The INEI informed that in the electricity subsector increased in 2.00% driven by the power generation of renewable, Eolic and solar energies, in 45.60% and of hydroelectric origin increased in 23.35%. On the other hand, the power generation of thermoelectric origin decreased in 14.05%.


Among the main companies that increased its production outstood: Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Huallaga S.A., Celepsa, San Gabán S.A., Statkraft Perú S.A., Egemsa, Orazul Energy Perú S.A., Electroperú S.A., Empresa de Generación Huanza S.A., Kallpa Generación S.A., Egasa and Engie Energía Perú S.A.


Domestic cement consumption showed a slight decrease
In September of 2024, the domestic cement consumption registered a reduction of 0.05%, as a result of a slow recovery of construction projects of private and self-construction origin.


General Government Investment Expenditure grew in 13.36%
During the month under analysis, the General Government Investment Expenditure totalized S/ 5,013 million and registered a growth of 13.36%, compared to the same month of the last year. In this result influenced the investment in building projects, meanwhile in the National and Regional level. As well as, the acquisition of machinery and equipment by Regional and Local governments.


On the other hand, the Consumption Expenditure of the General Government totalized S/ 10,243 million, in nominal terms, growing 8.18% compared with September of the year 2023.


Mortgage loans for housing increased in 4.88%
Mortgage loans totalized S/ 65,725 million, in September of the current year, increasing in 4.88% compared to September of 2023.


On the other hand, consumption credits placed in S/ 69,831 million, reducing 5.31% compared with the same month of the last year. In addition, the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises totalized S/ 212,926 million, showing a reduction of 1.71%, compared to the same month of 2023.


In addition, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking was of 6,238 thousand units, reducing in 4.60% compared to the same month of 2023.


Total amount imported reduced in 2.13%
The INEI informed that during September of 2024, the total amount imported was of US$ 4,556 million, lower in 2.13%, compared to the value registered in September of 2023, according to the information available as of October 24th of the current year. Regarding this issue, the import of raw materials and intermediate products placed in US$ 2,126 million, decreasing in 12.96%, compared with the value of September of 2023.


Nevertheless, it increased the import of capital goods and construction materials (US$ 1,377 million) a higher figure in 12.80% compared to the same month of the year 2023; as well as the imported amount of consumption goods (US$ 1,050 million), increasing in 5.94%, compared to the value registered in the same month of the year 2023.
