Three departments contributed with the 60.6% of the total of the coffee production during August of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in August of 2024, coffee production increased in 9.8% compared to the same month of the last year, registering a volume of 33 thousand 843 tons; outstanding the levels produced in the departments of San Martín (140.5%), Amazonas (11.0%) and Cajamarca (1.6%), that together concentrated the 60.6% of the national total.


In the Technical Report “Peru: Economic Outlook by Departments” also stated that this positive performance was influenced by the good thermic conditions that allowed the regular development of this crop, which influenced in the higher yields targeted to the agro-industry and to the foreign market.


In addition, coffee production grew in Pasco (251.7%), Lambayeque (69.3%), Puno (46.2%), Piura (29.3%) and Huánuco (9.7%); meanwhile, it was affected in Ayacucho (-90.4%), Ucayali (-64.0%), Junín (-3.3%), Cusco (-2.8%) and La Libertad (-1.8%).


Ucayali, Huánuco and Amazonas led the production of paddy rice
During the month under analysis, the production of paddy rice registered a positive result, in the producing areas of Ucayali (76.6%), Huánuco (38.4%) and Amazonas (16.2%), which contributed with the 34.3% of the national total. In addition, it increased in Pasco (82.6%) and Loreto (7.5%).
Nevertheless, it decreased in Junín (-45.6%), La Libertad (-41.6%), Cajamarca (-40.4%), Madre de Dios (-29.8%), Piura (-7.3%) and San Martín (-5.7%).


At national level, the production of paddy rice totalized 159 thousand 753 tons and reported a growth of 2.0% compared to the same month of the year 2023, due to the appropriate weather conditions in the ripening stage of the cereal, which favored to obtain better yields of crops targeted to the domestic market.


88.0% of poultry production reported in Lima, Arequipa, Ica and La Libertad
Poultry production increased in the departments of Lima (4.3%), Arequipa (2.0%), Ica (1.8%) and La Libertad (0.7%), representing together the 88.0% of the national total. Likewise, it increased in Piura (4.1%) and San Martín (3.2%).


On the other hand, it decreased in Madre de Dios (-5.5%), Tumbes (-4.9%), Moquegua (-4.4%), Amazonas (-3.9%) and Apurímac (-3.1%), among others.
The poultry production of the country increased in 2.8% compared to August of 2023, based in the greater placement of BB chicken of the meat line.


Copper production of the country increased in 11.7%
The copper production expanded by 11.7%, during August of the current year, after registering four months of negative behavior, driven by the higher extraction performed in the companies Minera Chinalco Perú, Antamina, Minera Las Bambas, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Cerro Verde and Minera Antapaccay.


The greater volumes extracted of copper were registered in Junín (126.8%), Apurímac (27.3%), Ancash (26.6%), Tacna (16.9%), Arequipa (9.3%) and Cusco (0.7%), regions that contributed with the 74.0% of the copper production. Meanwhile, it reduced in Pasco (-28.7%), Ica (-21.0%) and Moquegua (-10.0%).


Production of electric energy increased in 2.6%
In August of 2024, the production of electric energy increased in the departments of Huánuco (273.2%), Ica (113.5%), Ancash (43.3%) and Huancavelica (21.5%), mainly. Nevertheless, it contracted in Moquegua (-64.4%), Lambayeque (-45.0%), San Martín (-40.8%) and Madre de Dios (-40.6%), among others.


At national level, the production of electric energy increased in 2.6%, determined by the greater generation coming from the hydroelectric power stations such as Cerro del Águila, Mantaro, Restitución, Charcani V, Machupicchu and Cañón del Pato, among the most representatives. Likewise, it outstood the renewable energy generation (Eolic and solar).


On the other hand, the production of thermal energy showed an unfavorable behavior, as a consequence of the low generation of power stations of Ventanilla, Santa Rosa I, Santa Rosa II, Fénix, Chilca 1 and Chilca 2.


Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes grew in 9.2%
The INEI informed that the revenues collected by internal taxes totalized 10 thousand 920 million 210 thousand Soles, a higher amount in 9.2% compared to the collected in August of 2023, driven by the increase of payments related to the income taxes and to the value-added taxes, basically.


Regarding this issue, it highlighted Lima (9.8%), by registering the highest level of collection and a participation of 86.1% of the national total; followed by Apurímac (33.2%), Ancash (29.6%), Arequipa (27.0%), Puno (26.9%), Madre de Dios (26.0%) and Huancavelica (23.1%), among others.
On the other hand, it happened the contrary in Piura (-28.5%), Cajamarca (-13.2%), La Libertad (-12.5%), Tumbes (-12.0%), Lambayeque (-6.8%) and Moquegua (-6.6%).
