Traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased in 3.4% in August of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that in August of 2024, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased in 3.4% compared to the same month of 2023, growing 3.4%. in the last twelve months.
In the technical report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths indicates that this favorable behavior is the result of greater traffic of light-duty (3.7%) and heavy-duty (2.8%) units.
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles grew in 3.7%
In August of 2024, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles registered through the tollbooths of the country was higher in 3.7% compared to the same month of 2023, explained by the displacement of people associated to the long holiday due to the celebration of the Festivity of Santa Rosa de Lima, in addition of the holiday at national level on the occasion of the commemoration of the Battle of Junín.
In addition, was influenced by gastronomic fairs performed in the country, as well as activities development by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) carried out in the cities of Trujillo and Lima. These different events encouraged the tourism, retail trade, activities of entertainment, accommodation and restaurants.
The tollbooths that registered greater traffic flow were: to the north, Piura (Loma Larga Baja 17.8%, Chulucanas 8.7% and Piura Sullana 5.3%), San Martín (Pongo 8.5%, Aguas Claras 7.9% and Moyobamba 1.9%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 5.4%), La Libertad (Chicama 5.3%, Pacanguilla 2.9% and Virú 1.7%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 3.7%) and Áncash (Huarmey 1.4%).
In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 15.5%, Fortaleza 7.1%, Variant of Pasamayo 1.2% and Corcona 1.0%) and Junín (Quiulla 10.3% and Casaracra 2.0%); and in the south, Apurímac (Pichirhua 8.2%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuellar 6.3% and Ilo 5.7%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 6.0%), Arequipa (Patahuasi 4.3% and Matarani Concesión 0.5%), Puno (Santa Lucía 4.3%) and Ica (Jahuay Chincha 4.0% and Marcona 3.8%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased in 2.8%
During August of 2024, traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles registered through the toll booths showed an increase of 2.8% compared to the same month of 2023. This result was associated to the positive performance of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sectors, due to the increased extraction of copper, silver, molybdenum, lead and tin; also of Manufacturing sector, due to the higher production of furniture, wines, clothing items and dairy products; and of Construction sector, due to the domestic cement consumption related with the high investment of public works in the three areas of the Government, as well as the execution of private projects.
The toll booths with greater movement of vehicles, were: to the north, San Martín (Aguas Claras 16.4% and Moyobamba 2.5%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 11.4%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 8.4%), La Libertad (Virú 4.6%, Pacanguilla 3.6% and Chicama 3.3%), Áncash (Huarmey 4.3%) and Piura (Chulucanas 2.6% and Piura Sullana 2.1%).
In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 8.7%, Variant of Pasamayo 8.0%, Fortaleza 5.5% and El Paraíso 4.6%) and Junín (Quiulla 4,5%); and in the south, Ica (Marcona 15.8% and Jahuay Chincha 9.2%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 15.0%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuellar 13.7%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 9.1%) and Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 6.2%).
Traffic flow heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased in 3.1%
During the month under study, the movement of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle grew in 3.1% compared to the same month of 2023, driven by the high movement of heavy-duty vehicles, such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks for loading of 3 axle (2.0%), 4 axle (1.6%), 5 axle (5.9%), 6 axle (2.9%) and 7 axle (39.7%).
