Commercial activity grew 2.86%, in August of 2024

The commerce sector, in August of 2024, registered a growth of 2.86% compared to the same month of the last year, based in the positive evolution of the wholesale trade and retail trade, but not in the case in the automotive commerce, that registered a decrease.


During the year 2024, the sector has been presenting positive variations and so far, this year accumulates an increase of 2.62%.


Wholesale trade registered a progress of 3.39%
The wholesale trade grew 3.39%, driven by the sale of solid, liquid, gas fuels and lubricants targeted to mining sectors and to aeronautical activity, to the supply retails centers and to domestic gas distributors.


Likewise, the sale of computers, computer and accessories and computer programs increased, due to tenders and demand of retail businesses. The sale of other household goods grew before the greater rotation of electronic devices such as brown line, audio and video, stationary items and textbooks, white line, pharmaceutical and medicinal products, and products of personal care, favored by business strategies.


The sale of machinery and equipment grew due to the greater demand of heavy-duty machinery, electric and industrial equipment, and equipment of transportation for the mining, construction and services sectors. Likewise, the sale of clothing items, footwear, yarns and articles of haberdashery by winter season.


In addition, it increased the sale of nutritional products, chemical products for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, veterinarian industry, products of electronic and industrial security and agro-chemical products. Finally, it increased the sale of fertilizers and chemical products of agricultural use, chemical substances of industrial, veterinarian, textile and mining use, as well as paper and cardboard.


On the other hand, the sale of construction materials, hardware covers and equipment and materials of plumbing and heating equipment.
Greater sales in supermarkets and minimarkets boost the retail trade
The retail trade increased 3.20%, mainly explained by the sale in super-markets and mini-markets, before the opening of new stores and campaigns. Likewise, the sale of computers, computer accessories, computer programs and telecommunication equipment followed the same trend, driven by promotions and thematic events such as “The Gamer’s Day”.


The sale of fuel and lubricants grew before the demand in gas stations and self-stations, linked to the opening of new establishments at national level. In addition, the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal, cosmetics and toiletries products, increased due to the new products lines, advertising campaigns and tenders.

In the same way, the sale of footwear and clothing items increased, influenced by the opening of new sales points and season campaigns. Furthermore, the sale of household appliances grew, due to the discounts in combos in white, brown and gray line, as well as furniture and lightning articles, household utensils and musical instruments.


On the other hand, the sale of optical articles, spare parts for machinery, supplies for electrical installations; the sale of fabrics and wools by retail sale in specialized warehouses; besides of the textile’s products, clothing items and footwear in market stands.


Automotive commerce registered a decrease of 2.55%
Automotive commerce reported a decrease of 2.55%, due to the contraction of the demand of vehicles and of its maintenance and repair.


Nevertheless, the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles before the demand of pneumatics registered a growth before the demand of pneumatics, spares and parts of motor. Likewise, the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and its parts, pieces and accessories, due to campaigns increased due to campaigns and portfolios of models, linked to the renovation of fleets of public institutions.
